Hi all,

Stupidest thing happened while working on my Matchless. The knurled brass nut that holds the kill wire to the stud on the magneto cap skittered away in my buddy's garage and seems lost for good.

Does anyone happen to know the size of this nut? Or, better, know where/how to get a proper replacement without buying a whole new cap assembly? Haven't found anything on any of the parts lists I have or at any parts suppliers' sites, and don't even have thread checkers or gauges at the moment where I'm working!

Till I find one, I'm jamming the wire on with a piece of eraser rubber...

Thanks, and happy new year.

Re: Lucas 2Kf magneto kill wire nut??

Try an old gas style Coleman lantern top nut (although I think it's a different thread).

Worth a free shot, if you have one around...

Re: Lucas 2Kf magneto kill wire nut??

Also, some old 6V dry batteries have the knurled terminal nuts...

I'd say the correct thread is more important than whether it's knurled or hex.

Likely to be a BA size.

Any Lucas magneto parts seller will have it. What nation do you inhabit?

Exactly--prefer a knurled but hex will keep it on just as well. Was hoping my pile of old brit-size hardware that came with the bike would have something to fit, but nothing that small in there.

I can't find a part number; am in the US. Looks like just sending emails is the way to go...maybe someone has one even if it's not listed separately from the whole end-cap part number on their site. I need a reversing cam plate from Norvil so I'll start by asking them I suppose.

Hm, may have one in the pile of old junk, although it's bound to be a US thread size, not Brit...will look. Thx!

The nut for the power cable , on the back of a Lucas Alternator , I think hould fit . 1/4 " B.S.W. perhaps .

Its hiding at the lemon coloured nylon round insulator , there .

AGAIN , a auto electrician who medles with deranged equipment should assist . :D

Doug Wood rebuilds K2F magnetos. I am sure he can provide an authentic nut. His email is <dougwood@netsero.net>
