Yes C3 clearance is correct.
Here is the bearing at RGM.
It's actually a bit less expensive than the lower spec bearing you have now.
The Bonneville Shop bearing is also the correct bearing. It is listed by Norton part number rather than SKF bearing designation.

How do you feel about this option:
They offer both CN and C3, but it sounds like C3 is generally recommended?

I would not buy any bearing that wasn't marked with the manufacturer's name, bearing number and country of origin. Maybe the photo is generic but I'd verify that before ordering.

Good eye. Will check before ordering
Shipping to US from RGM is £50, changes the cost difference

Give them a call, I think they will reduce that shipping charge.
Their shipping calculator is very money hungry, I think it needs re-calibrating.

Andover Norton has the bearings at a slightly higher cost and with 20 GBP shipping to Vancouver BC. US destinations should be similar or less.

I can try to call. Got a call back from bonneville shop. Their bearings are FAG, markings are NJ306-6-XL-M1-C3
No E suffix, but the rest is jibberish other than 306 and C3 to me
Made in India

You need the E on there to be safe.
I went thru this looking at some similar bearings for the 1360 Vincent
It has the same size mainbearings as a Commando, except it uses 4 bearings instead of 2 and they are not lipped.
The standard roller bearings in that size were all rated around 35 kn static load while the E spec was 61kn. Dynamic loading was on the same ratio between regular and E for extreme loading type.
The E spec was also rated 1000 rpm higher max rpm.

Had to look it up and came across this. Made me feel like a real cheapskate:

Thanks kommando and glen.
Will leave the end float alone. Whatever the terminology, it is clear these bearings won’t work.
I have contacted the supplier to see if returning them is possible.

This is the bearing AN sell https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/sho...shaft-bearing-d12-32-nm17822-nm17824-06-2114-

Looks like Greg could help with quicker shipping and import covered.

Got the AN bearings and fit is much better, 2 thousandths interference and a tight fit in the case.
I had a question I don't think warrants a new thread. When I was separating the case this fell to the bottom, and I haven't been able to find where it came from on the parts diagram. Can anyone tell me where this belongs?

No, there should just be a single snap ring in place.

No telling what has gone on there.
I would guess someone did not put the snap ring in properly and it vibrated out at some point.
At some future date someone must have noticed the missing snap ring and put a new one in place.
From the look of the loose snap ring it has not done any damage to anything, which is a lucky thing.
