We've been over the cost of Kenny's scale of engine combo, a few years ago it'd cost 12 grand for parts and processing. With inflation and dialing in more like 15 grand fir a ready to run engine.

You are smoking Rhubarb on this one.

The gearbox alone would cost you a good $5 k with import duty.

Not so.

OK. So I just dug out the invoice from three years ago for my 6 speed magnesium TT box.

At todays exchange rate it comes to US$5028.04

So yes it is so.

Maybe you got a deal with four of them. Or your tax is a lot less - I paid NZ GST at 12.5% . Have you check NZ/US rate lately. NZ $ has gone up 15 % against the US in last three years. My shipping cost was almost nil. Nelson to Wellington.

Its worth it. The best in the world.

My bad as I was thinking about my first TTIndustries 5 speed ordered around 2005. The following is the order for my second TTIndustries box 2008. The 5 speed went to Kenny Cummings and the 6 speed is in my ultra short stroke Norton 500.

Qty. 1 5 speed magnesium case gearbox with ratios and sprockets requested NZ$ 5,100

Qty. 1 6 speed magnesium case gearbox with ratios and sprockets requested NZ$ 5,600

Estimated shipping NZ$ 440 for both.

Running TTIndustries gear boxes has transformed my race bikes.

I would have thought that someone could build most of a Seeley Commando racer for $15K,

$15k is a real push but possible. In one instance I know where a nice Mk3 is laying around sans engine that I am guessing I could pick up for $8k as a near roller. That leaves $7k for fresh tires, chain and motor.

Not that many people know where to look.

No problem :-)

I think this one is close to the price I paid in 2011 if you add on NZ Taxes.

" Qty. 1 6 speed magnesium case gearbox with ratios and sprockets requested NZ$ 5,600 "

But the big issue to the US is the NZ $ has gone up a very long way. Since 2005 when you first bought one maybe 25-30 % ??

Regards

John

Dances, The replica Seeley frames used to be about $3,500 , and the tanks would cost $1200. It should be possible to find a set of forks and wheels for $3,300 ? Why would you build a racer based on an $8000 commando roller ? Buy the Mk3, find an engine, and make a dollar on it. I've never believed in making racers out of bikes which should be restored. I don't like road bikes, but I can really see value in a pristine old British bike with all the old bullshit on it.

Agree with what you are saying but unless you have a machine shop the little details such as fabricating engine/trans plates etc... will eat your lunch.

The roller I refer to is everything but an engine. So yes, get a Commando wreck and start with a blue printed engine. I like beng approach where you can extract quite a bit out of the engine and it will still be very trackable and reliable by doing some very simple modifications and clean ups. Great bike to get track time on.
