Nothing needs to be cut. I'm redesigning the throttle cable bracket. I know it fits the roadster tanks but not sure about interstate tanks.

The original steel throttle wheel has a high point on it that rotates to the top at wide open throttle.

I want to know if that high point would interfere with the tank if it was moved 3/8" further to the right (to the outside at full throttle). The new experimental throttle wheel is about the same diameter as the high point of the original steel wheel but the alum wheel is located about 3/8" further to the right with an interstate tank.

Jim, send me a pair and I'll gladly measure the clearance for you ;)
Not ready to send anything out. Manifolds won't be finished till next month. Clearance questions will hopefully be answered by then.

Jim,
I got 8 5/8" between the American type petcocks. The tank is original and Steel.
I did not take it off but used a starrett 12" ruler that fit between the petcocks.
YMMV.

I have an older syle steel Interstate tank with the wider profile at the seat.

My petcocks are 295mm back from the front studs, on center, either side of a 25mm wide tape rule.

There is 210mm clearance between the petcocks, with 190 mm at the lip of the tank there and 125 mm at the shoulder of the tunnel.

Moving 50mm towards the seat the measurements are 210mm at lip, and 155 at tunnel shoulder.

It looks like everything will clear. Some sagging interstate tanks may need a new rubber pad between the frame top tube and the tank near the rear.
