K81s

The other nice thing about K-81's is that I can rotate them. The rear wears much quicker than the front on Commando's, so when the rear is toast, I put the fresh tire on the front and move the front to the rear. That way I always have fresh rubber where it is most important!
Mileage is pretty good. Last summer I put on fresh tires in L.A., then rode up the coast to the rally in Oregon, spent a week riding there, then my wife and I spent a week riding in Idaho, then I rode home to Ohio. The rear was worn, but still had tread left even with all the straight line miles.

Thanks for the reality checks on two 4.10 K81's pleasing practicality. Andy report was most interesting to me for untamed Cdo's behavior flight envelope. Half my mileage-time on 2 Combat 15 yrs have been on matched K81's but were either old ones that came on the Combats, or hard used hand me down's. I hate tire changing but after being braking disappointment and easier-earlier Hinge onsets trying 100 Road Rider on my stock Trixie Combat as only rront tire on 3 cycles that wears flat in center instead of V shaped sides I gave Wes Peel brand new 100 Roadruner and soon the still good 100 Roadrunner now on Trixie for new old fashioned set. K81's ain't much an off pavement tire but does better than RoadRunners on Pasture grass. On 6 occasions going over 60 in special places I've been able to lean and power Trixie to get rear to break loose and step out a tire width or so, so know I'll never need more traction on factory untamed Combat except to doge deer. Trixie's steps out were for learning crashing avoidance weave/wobble out of control thresholds to avoid not working up racer maxims, which are not leaning and over powering traction on purpose. If ya don't learn when a tire will fail you how can ya judge its worth or what not to do.

Just my bit. the Avon AM26 by far has been the best tire on my commando. Incredile grip and feel. Not neccesarily the longest wearing, but I dont care Id rather have the performance....but of course you want the original look then go with the dunlops

Just replaced the carcassed K81 4.10x19 after 1 year with an Avon am26 120/90x18 (have and alternate both size rear wheels).
Will provide an opinion in a year or less (or more I hope). I don't think much of Pirelli Phantoms - off the market in any case.

I ran K81's for years , & they were fine , but I changed to bridgestone BT45's & they are better .
As previously mentioned the newer tyres do not follow the ruts as much .
