My old lady has been seriously hearing impaired since she was 21. And I can tell you that deaf people can hear you but
cannot get what you said. In other words they only understand some of the words in a sentence.
If you have a hearing problem you should get hearing aids sooner not later because the longer you wait the harder it will be for you to take advantage of the hearing aid.
Just adding this so nobody thinks Im slagging anybody.

+1 on act sooner rather than later.
The audiologist explained to me- as you lose your hearing, the brain unlearns how to turn speaking sounds into words. This loss is permanent, the brain does not regain this ability.
So if you wait too long before getting hearing aids, the best hearing aids will only make the sound louder, you still won't be able to convert the sounds to words.

Glen

Don't really know where you guys are coming from, I have worn hearing aids since around 2002!

I went early.

My late elder brother was deaf from birth so I understand a bit about the topic!

Meanwhile, on topic, still no response from Jim!

Me neither, sent about 5 messages, haven't heard back for over a year!

Can't say I ever had that problem, there were even times by date where I almost got a reply the day before sending a message.
Good to hear Mr C is well.

He has been super busy, but has replied to the messages I have sent. If you want the best, you have to be very patient.

I am waiting on a reply from Jim to my emails...any body had any recent work completed?

Ya deaf bastards. He said he was inundated with work. There are toooooo many on this forum who want him to do their work. What do you expect. Give him a break. He will surface when he needs to.

It’s not that I am deaf or stupid mate...

I know Jim has been super busy, but has anyone heard from him lately? I have been trying to contact him since October with multiple emails and phone calls with no response. Hope everything is ok...

Yes, I have heard from him a couple weeks ago.
Thanks. I figured he was super swamped still but has the last piece of my rebuild (cylinder head) and was a bit concerned since I couldn’t contact him for a few months.

My wife started going deaf a couple years ago. She got some aids, but never uses them. I have to yell at her most of the time, it's really irritating. At 77 it's almost like my hearing has gotten more sensitive. But I know I've lost the high registers, I have a way to test it. I can't hear just past about 12K, but below that it's just fine, almost too fine.

I'm glad Jim is busy, I hope he likes it that way. We need more like him.

yeah, I feel for Jim. He's the go to guy for our hi tech work projects. I'm hoping that my crankcase breather will be done soon so I can start the completion of the 50th anniversary build of my '71 this year. I think a lot of us may be in project mode this past year, so he has more workload due to that and he's just a one man show.

Oh oh....

You can get yourself properly scared by getting a hearing test. In fact you can get some idea by going on line and taking one with headphones. Almost everyone will lose some hearing as time goes on. Take the test online and then head to an audiologist. You won't be happy
to find you aren't as ok as you thought but it is essential to do something NOW.
Man who lives with deaf wife....need I say more?

Your not kidding. Off topic but what the hell. My elderly cousin told me I was going deaf, because i could not pick up the consonants easily. This was by email. I thought about it and agreed. She was right. I thought I could hear quite well, but realised I still could not understand all that i could hear. Worse was trying to understand on of my sons. He speaks so fast and seems to mumble. Canst understand a word of what he says. [ Even with my hearing aids in ].

I got hearing aids in the end, but the biggest laugh was in the instructions.

Please make sure your spouse faces you when they talk to you. Well that went down like a fucking lead balloon.

Onder is correct. Even with hearing aids, I have trouble sometimes. The bloody things magnify everything you don't want to hear.

ONder. I think you should start up a new thread here for us poor bastards who are going deaf, and for those who think they aren't.

You are not alone. I just wish he would at least communicate.
