First off, thank you Richard for your pdf manuals... the tank removal was easy peasy!

The coil pack fitted to my 2017/18 50th Anniv. is clearly marked Bosch. Haven't checked HT wire diameter/plugs/other sensors. The water is condensation, temperature just plummeted after a fairly mild day.

I note that the battery is a Yuasa 11.8Ah which needs trickle charging all the time which is an annoyance. I also see a cluster of 3 fuse holders attached to the +ve terminal... are these in place of the fuse box that would normally be found under the seat hump on pre-EUR4 bikes?

Can you explain the need for trickle charging all the time. I have had a Guzzi V7 since June 2013 on the same battery and only put about 600-700 miles a year on it so it sits idle most of the time in my cold garage. I tend to hook up my CTEK XS 0.8 to it every 3 weeks or so, bring it back up to full charge and then switch it to my ride on mower. Now the Norton has arrived, I have it hooked up since last night and see its fully charged. Tomorrow I will probably switch it to the tractor for 2-3 nights, then the guzzi and then maybe forget for a week before the Norton again. I was thinking about buying more chargers but its worked well so far for my V7 so was going to save my money and just utilise the one charger for all three vehicles

I have a utility charger that I cycle through my quads, ride-ons, tow-behinds and vintage car about once every 6 weeks over the winter. They usually only need 30 mins to top them up.

I put my Thruxton on an Optimate if I haven't used it for a fortnight and it goes straight to trickle/test cycle i.e. it is fully charged.

I put my 961 on charge when it arrived and it needed a 2 hour charge to reach the test cycle. I put the 961 on charge a week later and again it needed a full charge even though I hadn't even turned the key. I left it another couple of days and again the Optimate went into a charge cycle. My battery seems to behaving 'normal' on the 961 according to folks here who advise keeping it on a permanent trickle charge. I doubt very much that the Yuasa is poorly, i've used them for decades, it can only be that the 961 'leaks' even when ignition is off.

Ok thanks, I shall monitor. Actually with the flying lead near the rear shock and now that I have the right connector to plug straight in, this bike is easier to charge than my V7 because with that, I have to remove a side cover and use croc clips on the battery. I mean no big deal as we all like to tinker around but if for whatever reason the 961 needs to be charged more often, I made buy another ctek charger for it alone. When I first did my 961 research I was horrified that I may have to remove the tank each time to charge.

That made my day. Thank you!

My bikes are never off a .75 amp tender. Nice to see the Bosch parts. I credit you know who for going public with that.

I have various vehicles bikes and cars most modern vehicles using electronics will require constant connection to battery optimisers as most electronics use consume small amounts of electrical power. Trackers alarms and things like digital clocks are the worst offenders but I keep all mine of on optimisers including my 72 Suzuki and Commando.
Amazon and E Bay sell cheap optimisers but beware not all of them are designed for continues use.I use CETK chargers these are ok for continues connecting and ensure you use a fuse protected connection from the battery to the charger as a unprotected connector has the potential to set fire to your vehicle.
If using as a charger for cars and bikes make sure charger is capable ie charge rate to charge the battery you are connecting it to.

Yup, mines a Bosch too I’m happy to report!

MxMartin, I think the fuses next to the battery are just for safety, in case there’s a short between battery and fuse box. The main fuse box is still under the seat hump, it’s a smaller box with those tiny little micro fuses
