They want a deposit to secure... I'm like "Heard this story before".... oh wait its BMW.....

The fool in me imagines the 961 and this sitting in the garage in the dark hurling abuse at one another.... :D:p:eek:;)

The are unlike siblings and have very different power characteristics. One is a modern chassis built around an engine whose technical concept was outdated 60 years ago. The "retro" concept was taken too far. Quality of cycle parts may be good, but the total package is outdated. The bike really cries for a more powerful engine. As I've stated before, the conceptual model was wrong from the very start. Norton should have built on the Cosworth Challenge engine (Quantal version) and saved themselves the acquisition of the Dreer project. That engine had a tremendous potential.

The other bike in question has a modern chassis and an (almost) state of the art engine, offering top quality and longevity. It's probably worth every penny they ask for it. Have you looked at the limited model R nineT /5? It's the most attractive of the R nineT models, IMHO.

I agree strongly with mdt-son. The R9T is a fabulous motorcycle. I had one, but it didn’t really give me the visceral riding experience I was hoping for, so I moved it on to make space for a 961. But in reality the R9 was better in every respect.

They can be very dangerous to your wealth though. They’re probably second only to HD with regards to the ease at which you can through money at them on goodies!

Here’s some pics of mine:

You know.... I really love and admire everything about these modern bikes except the Robocop designs.... I just cannot make them fit my image of motorcycles. They look like something else. Perhaps I'm frozen in time and also an unchanged relic.

I don’t think you’re alone with that point of view...

The form and elegance are missing, and they also have no vibrancy of soul which comes from craftsmanship.

I must be missing something here. What is this thread about? Was there a link to some news that applies? Is this about a new BMW model, or a complaint about something, or what? Has BMW ended boxer production?

Ken

I think what he is saying is that he likes the Air cooled BMW classic line and may be buying one ?

I believe it reverts back to hand wringing of the present demise of the 'new' Norton' and BMW presenting their new panzerjager, I guess, to further conquer the share of the market..... or something. Hell! I can't really say except it's a pretty, but soulless looking beast. The 961 had a soul and some elegance to it.

Everyone likes the old boxer design because it's been there and done that forever. It exudes reliability you can borrow money on for an eternity.

Oh so very long ago I nearly bought an R900S after my last Commando Mk3 died, I bought a Kwaka GPz1100 instead. I still have a soft spot for the boxer but never owned one, never owned any BMW come to that, not even a car (although I guess my Mini counts)

There is a lot of Carbon on that there Panzer Son.... your pockets are truly bottomless !!

P.S interested in the pipe on there ? Remus ? do you have a shot or the left side at all ?

My eyes tell me that most beautiful bike ever manufactured is my “Griso 1100” , please note beauty is a personal perception , the BMW , while I have no doubt a great bike it just don’t do it for these eyes ... actually never have been a fan ...

Ya know. I just bought a 2020 R9T Pure. Only ridden for a couple 100 miles. I really like it! I traded in my EBR1190SX on it.
Was very shocked when I started looking up accessories for the Bimmer! WOW!! Expensive!
Bought my 961 Commando SE in 2918 with 550 miles on it. I LOVE it! But it's not an everyday bike for me. Love the look of the engine. But in my mind it's a great bike in need of an engine(Nice tranny too)! But I'll never sell it.
My other bike is an 03 Aprilia Tuono. Now that is a fun bike that is really comfortable & plenty of power. Went on a 2000 mile trip on it.
For bike shows, bikes nights or taking it the museum bike days, I take the 961. It gathers a crowd!
Where does the BMW fit? Not sure yet. But I'm sure I'll find a use for it!! Lol

I was thinking in terms of bimmers and beauty and remembered the 1934 art deco version, and you guessed it... someone just had to do a "modern" version.

Now that is a good looking Beemer.... Wonder why it didn't. Could you picture that rolling into Russia with a sidecar 7 years later?
