Hi,are any there any 961 owners over here at the TT ? Going to visit the Norton truck tomorrow and see if they can sort out my high tick over, its at about 2200rpm,very hard to ride especially when trying to put the bike in gear, sounds like its going to break something.

Hello 961Story , Didn't you just post that you had the bike back to Norton for a Blown Head gasket ? The bike was fine until you got it home or a short while later then ? I hope you get it sorted out , please let us know what it was . This could save some grief for someone else one of these days. I hope you have a great time at the TT ! I would love to go there some day .

Yes did have a head gasket problem, which was sorted just in time to come to the IOM,or else I would have used the BMW. Wish I had now,I think the head gasket has gone again, hence the surging reving up to 2200 rpm etc.
I don't seem to be able to load any photos.

The idle motor, which is the little unit at the back of the cylinder head with air pipes in and out, can get stuck/malfunction. Locate the air pipe from this to the air box and block this pipe - you will need to have a little bit of throttle when starting but should indicate if this unit is the cause. I wrapped the unit in exhaust bandage to isolate it from the heat & it idles fine now - I was having the 2500 rpm tickover.

^^ Hmmm....that's an interesting piece of info. I'll check that unit.^^ Thanks.

I had the idle air hose blocked by the factory, then told by someone else at the factory that it would void my warranty if it remained blocked ? It did tick over perfectly when it was blocked.
Back to my current problem,I still think it's the head gasket, bike feels flat and won't pull..
Anyway off to the pub for a few beers.

If that's the unit with the 2 black hoses on the brass fittings from the air box to that unit, with a hex screw on each side, both screws were more than halfway backed out. I tightened them up with a hex key. The fit is a bitch. Hard to get your hands in there. Half a turn, take out, put back in, half turn, take out, put back in......Oy. Bike idled like a champ today. Nice 70-80 MPH run for 50 miles. Every Sunday at the beach, there is a gathering of about 200 bikes and some really nice cars. A 289 Cobra and a 427 Cobra, old 62 T Bird, couple of old Vettes, and....get this.....a mint Ford Grenada. LOL. Anyway, thanks for the tip.

Britfan,

OBI Parking lot?
Damn, wish my bike was back on the road.
Today was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky.

Regards.

Yes. OBI. So sorry about your starter. What were the symptoms? By the way, they were the idle air motor bolts that were loose. Glad that's found and corrected. I really need to learn my way around this bike.

Looks like another DNF for Norton , Cameron started the race but had to stop . I read about a tire spinning on the rim ? I read on twitter that he had a 125 mph lap. The winner was doing 130 average Honda . They should go to the TT and let people test ride 961's that would be a great sales tool.
