Is this true?

A Google search produced many articles on Mahindra purchasing BSA plus two others that mention them "trying to" or "in talks with" purchasing Norton. That they are on a buying spree. I could only imagine the pressure to sell and the amount of cash being offered. http://www.morebikes.co.uk/bsa-make-com ... ew-owners/ STEWART. JUST SAY NO!! Don't cave in.

If true, it certainly would be a disappointment. After all the hype of bringing back manufacturing to the UK, and the announcements of government grants to develop product and train people

I agree.
It would be a real bummer.
A main reason why I bought my 961 is that it was made in the UK.

After reading the article I'm feeling kind of sick. I still love my 961. All along , putting up with little problems and downtime, I've relied on the fact that it was an exclusive hand built British motorcycle, and like those that came before it, you deal with it to reap the rewards. I've also got an old BSA and I'm interested to see India attempt to resurrect the dead in that case, but Norton is not dead. Please say it isn't so Mr. Gardner. The jewel needs polished not passed on.

Even if Mahindra has bought Norton, there's a very good chance it will stay where it is and continue on its existing path. Mahindra will probably be able to bring much better economies of scale by using the same parts as some of the other motorcycle manufacturers they own and giving Norton much better purchasing power.

There was a connection with India when I was with N-V. Tucked away on the stand at the 1967 Motorcycle show was a 200cc scooter, The Villiers "Fantabulous" (yes, really) which was made by Villiers- India. N-V were considering introducing it in the British market, but it was a bit weird in is construction and handling - I rode it quite a bit as my commuter bike - so it was dropped. I understand it was quite successful in its native market, where it had a 175cc Villiers engine. Maybe V-I still makes it.

If it is true, let's hope for the best.
Mahindra helped out Land Rover, hopefully they will do the same for Norton.
I'm also interested in seeing what is produced under the old BSA brand name.

Irrespective if garner sells or not there are the many other issues that would need to bought as well to pool the trademark under one roof. It is only a matter of time, Mahindra Group own a lot manufacturing worldwide, as do Tata and the Gupta family which is Liberty HG. If the indians don't buy then I would not be surprised if the chinese splash the cash.

NMUK need to pull their fingers out and produce a Euro4 compliant 961 bike, or it will be curtains for the manufacturing side NMUK I reckon.

Is it plausible that they have bought another, different version of the Norton name? Thereby re-open the wounds of various rights to use various versions of the name.

I think is bull. There would be a lot more than one article stating this. There are many about BSA and JAWA

If it is true all of our bikes were still built in Britain under British ownership! They will be even more exclusive!!!! This is what I keep telling myself because I will be very disappointed if it Is true!

Exactly what I was thinking. Not bad after all if we get improved support in the end. :D

Just checked, the Norton website and Simon are silent on this. Not good! If they Have seen it and its false You would think they would debunk it quickly!

Also, with Garner about to push the new V4 1200, and 650 Twin out the front door, would he suddenly turn around and sell the company?
Seems unlikely.

Norton doesn't update their website very often. The article says they acquired these brands for 3.4 million. Doubt Garner would take that kind of bath. BSA is just currently a brand. Their paying just for that, nothing more. Kind of like Triumph having to make slight variations to their logo to not infringe on copyrights.

Curtis, You are of course correct! I just thought something of this magnitude might get fast tracked!

 I still can't find anything concrete on this, maybe we dodged a bullet. It doesn't seem to me that Norton would fit with Royal Enfield, Jawa, BSA but Mahindra did initiate talks!

There are also issues with the Britexit vote. I thought the Pound would rebound by now, but it has dropped even further. I am not sure of all the implications of a buyout now, If Mr. Garner has manufacturing outside of the UK, primarily in his other businesses, then all of that manufacturing just became very expensive.

The pound is currently at a 10 year low (maybe a all time historic low). Not sure how that effects Mr. Garner right now. From an outside the UK investor point of view, now is the time to make offers for UK businesses and products

Of course I have no letters after my name (MBA, BS, BA,), so my opinions are not based on finance knowledge. But, the things have changed in the UK, and for right now, not in a good way

Very true.
Hopefully what Garner say in one of his interviews a while back is still correct.
He indicated that 80% of the 961's parts are from UK suppliers.
