Interstate tank stripe thickness

I'm having a painter do the gold stripe on both sides on the Interstate metal tank of my 1971 Norton Commando 750. If I were to guess I'd go with either a 3/16" or a 1/4" thick stripe but I'd rather not guess, so would one of you Interstate owners be kind enough to provide me with the correct thickness of this stripe--either in inches or millimeters?
Thank you in advance.
Ric

The striping on my(850) interstate tank is 1/8 inch wide and both stripes are 1/8 inch apart.
(The tank has still its original factory paintwork)

Thanks very much for your answers. Mine is a 1971 750 so we'll go ahead and do a 1/4" stripe; assuming, of course, that it's like the 1972 mentioned above.

However, there wasn't any 1971 model Interstate, so whatever you do it won't be 'original'.

OK, well, then, this begs the following question: were all Interstate tanks the same--ie., 750s and 850s--and, if not, how can I identify which vintage mine is?
Just so you know, I've placed a WTB advertisement for a correct Roadster tank in the WANTED section of our website without success thus far.

They not only varied in capacity (see link to previous discussion, below) but the vast majority of 750 Interstate tanks were made of glass fibre/fiberglass so if you have a steel tank then consider yourself lucky regardless of which model it was from originally (probably 850).

L.A.B. Again, thank you for your informed response as well as for the link regarding tank sizes, shapes and materials. Mine is indeed steel, quite long and very wide, so probably a late 850 as you say. After I discuss it with the painter I'll make a decision though I secretly favor the double stripes. Eventually I'm confident I'll find a steel Roadster tank which will place me closer to the handlebars for better control and comfort.

Hopefully, you are aware that if you fit a Roadster tank you will also need a Roadster seat, otherwise, there will be a considerable gap between the Roadster tank and Interstate seat (assuming that's what you currently have) although it should be possible to modify an Interstate seat by repositioning the seat brackets.
The two models also have different side covers.

Yep, I'm aware of the difference in seats. Presently I have two, a modified Roadster (brackets repositioned) and a Corbin which I also lightly modified to move rearward. I'm convinced that the ideal configuration for me (5'5") is the Roadster tank with the Corbin gunfighter. I'll get there sooner rather than later--I hope.
