Wife is starting to ride with me and current Roadster Seat just not long enough. Thinking of getting a MK-2 type seat for more room. Will a MK-2 Interstate Seat fit to a 1972 with a Roadster Tank? Thank you for your comments & replies.

It should fit, but there would be a 3"- 4" a gap between a Roadster tank and an Interstate seat-unless you relocated the Interstate seat mounting lugs, as the Roadster tank is shorter than the Interstate tank.

Actually there's not much difference between the lengths of both seats (about 2"), its just that the Interstate seat is fixed further back, so it gives the passenger more room, as the rider tends to sit further forward on it although the Interstate seat has a bit more padding at the front which helps.

just to add a bit - the interstate seat is also wider, so even with tabs rewelded to fir it to the roadster seat the seat/tank abutment (is that a real word) doesn't match up real well in an eye pleasing way -

Aiso, all of the pressings for clearance under the seat , oil tank filler, main frame menber and seat rails will all be in the wrong place.

So if there is only 2" difference more in length compared to the Roadster Seat and have a 3-4 inch gap between the front of seat and rear of tank by fitting a Interstate seat with Roadster tank, guess I may not go that route.

Remember seeing a aftermarket double saddle seat once or twice on E-Bay auction. It looked comfortable for 2 people and could be taken off and use the Roadster seat when riding solo.

yes - usually not too much $ as they are a bit of a monstrosity- of course it seems like when ever you want something on the bay there is always one other person willing to toss large amounts of $ at the same item
good luck!

Maybe you are better off to fill the gap with a custom fitted tool bag or something. Beer holder?
