Two questions.

1. The intermediate gear spindle is a press fit into the RH side crankcase half. In the casting where the spindle presses in there is what looks like an oil hole drilled in the casting above the spindle. As the spindle is a press fit and would not require any oil supply can someone suggest what this oil hole is for?

2. The intermediate gear spindle has a hole drilled about half way along its length. What is this for and should it be positioned in any particular direction (up or down)?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any lubrication hole in the RH case for the spindle (although there is one for the camshaft) as there's normally one in the timing cover.
The intermediate spindle should be positioned with the hole facing down (end slot horizontal) so oil will be fed to the intermediate gear bush through the hollow spindle from the splash lube hole in the timing cover.

Thanks Les. My faux pas. I was typing the thread from memory and working a lot of nights (night shift) recently my mind is not always where it should be. It was the splash hole in the timing cover above the spindle I could visualise but mistakenly thought it was in the RH crankcase - not so.

Thanks for your quick response - always a bonus when putting a motor back together and waiting on a reply before proceeding any further.
