Incoming - Aluminum Fuel Tank for my Dominator

That's happened to me also.
I actually dropped my 961 in the garage while maneuvering it around the others.
A lot of raving, screaming..., but I lucked out - no damage except the clutch lever ball end.

You think that a body shop with a suction dent puller might be able to pull the dent out?
The aluminum is thin, so could work.
I'm half tempted to try it myself. I'm studying YouTube vids on dent repair etc and think its doable
 
The paintless dent removal guys are amazing. They use long bars to pry it out from inside and use a strong light to view how far they move the dent. They are also known as Hail Chasers because they travel around to car dealers following hailstorms. I used one once and he told me they have a school for this in Mississippi. He had set up at the local carwash. His wife back home checked the weather reports and kept him informed.

I would want the dent fixed if it was my tank. That tank is too pretty to leave it dented. Looks to be an easy fix for any body shop.
 
Is there any other way to buy this aluminum tank without paying the exorbitant price tag from Norton? I’ve had my eye on this upgrade since I bought the bike.
 
And my first dent . No idea how it happened, any thoughts how to get it out?

The position looks to be next to the large cutout for battery, if invisible removal is impossible then they might be able to push it out by making a small window in the battery recess then weld up again.

Sounds like a good plan 'B'.
 
In this case, heat is your friend.
I come from a family owned body shop business of over 50 year of experience.

Heat will shrink that dent out.

The best methods are...
Gas acetylene torch
Or better yet a heat inductor.

The benefits of heat induction are no open flames and control. This dent in your tank can easily be removed and I would highly recommend the use of an inductor over picks and other hard tools. If one accidentally picks to hard from the inside it’ll leave a outward dent and more issues.

Heat induction is best.

Have you checked over in England ? There are Fuel tank shops that specialize in Alum tanks . Maybe they can get a plastic donor from somebody and copy it ? Maybe some of the UK forum members can give an idea where to shop for it ? Norton plastic tank is about 1200 USD.

I also am having second thoughts. The polished ally tank is top of my purchase list, nearly ordered it a couple of times; it is a work of art. BUT, the black/gold pinstripe looks awesome and the polished tank appears to break up the beutiful flowing lines somewhat. I guess that I am in two minds.

Gold lettering and pinstripe on the ally tank with the same black painted within the bounds of the pinstripes {and around the gold lettering) would look awesome. Leaving the rest of the tank polished ally.

I may have to do it!!!!!

You mean like this but with black filling in the gold boarder?
I too thought of paining that area in. But I also thought about putting the black tank back on because I like the menacing all black look, I just can’t let the aluminum tank sit around not being used for the cost.
If I were to do it again, I’d pass on the urge of the aluminum tank and just keep the black tank.

When I installed my tank, I also installed all polished bits and pieces (yolks, foot controls, dash, etc)

Some bikes look simply gorgeous with the alloy tank, some don’t.

When I fitted one to my black themed 961 it didn’t work for me and I went back to the stock black n gold.

I still say that painting the 961 seat unit and airbox in the chrome type paint used on the V4 would look awesome with an alloy tank.
 
These are some of the things Norton could be doing , If they weren't so busy doing other things !

Yes, I agree all alloy/chrome would be bitchin'
And properly cleaned and polished will blind all motorists on a sunny day.
What's not to love about that.:cool:

I do think the alloy tank will work with the silver Manx Commando, but clashes with the Black/Gold color.
Go alloy, or go black.

Gray with black
Polished aluminum with gold
Brushed aluminum with black

Black and gold
Brushed with black
Are the best.
