Should we have an "In the pub" forum for general venting?
Maybe it would get too out of hand. Anyway vote now.

Please dont post any comments here-- Just Vote

Would having a "Pub" section make life easier for you and the moderator(s)? I could care less, myself, but I say let's do whatever make's your job easier. I suppose you would still have to monitor the "Pub" section also, yes?

since this seems to be open for posts...

if you want to create a place for 'venting'... make it as as open and UNmoderated as possible.
like a crankcase vent, it should flow in one direction.
move threads there as needed.

Other motorcycle forums I have been on have gone right downhill with such forums. It gets personal enough in here as it is. Why not stick to bikes?

I have voted, YES but would like its accessability restricted... For example those browsing non members will not be able to view it.. Or only the VIP members view it... (That might also encourage a bit more financial backing and a $$ win for the site ... )
Because im a bit nosey by nature it means that i will have to become VIP member and pay my way...

This Forum should be "brothers helping brothers" to keep these venerable machines roadworthy.

I vote NO.

Peace and harmony is the chief strength and support of all well regulated institutions....we should strive to achieve that here.

I think it's a great idea and title for it, Reason being it seems as if many of these folks that seem to have problems with each other have been drinking anyways. Could I get another beer?

Must admit i love a good old Rip , Im in for the PUB section! as long as it's a bit Norton/bike based...dont moan about how the milks gone up!

If you have a pub... You'll also need a pub car park... Where those debates that can not be resolved by other means are 'taken outside'...

Queensberry rules only. We are gentlemen after all.

My thoughts exactly
+1

All for it. Means the main streams stay focussed and if you don't want the BS, you can just skip the trip to the pub.

Was trying to avoid posting a comment as per Jerry's instructions, but after a dozen comments, I have to ask, did anyone above read Jerry's instructional post at top that says "Please don't post any comments here - just vote?"
That old no - listen to the other guy problem again , maybe this is in part why people want to vent ?

It is tough to read all the way thru instructions, unless they happen to be wrapped around a shiny new motorcycle part, then every word is golden

Since it is "open season" on posting comments, I have to say I like the replies so far.

I side with those thinking that if there is a "Pub" section for off-topic and nonsense, then perhaps the "General" section can revert to strictly technical discussions. I would draw the line at creating individual tech sections for engine, suspension, electrical, bodywork, etc., as some forums do.

I posted because I don't want to be moderated!!!
"I wanna be free, to ride my machine an not be hassled by the man....an I wanna get loaded!!"

I voted No to the "In the Pub" survey, but after reading some of todays topics that has no relation to the "function" of a Norton, I now would vote Yes for it. I liked one viewers comment about a Topic here recently and said..... "Take it to the Pub". I like that. And us Forum viewers who wants to read these topics, the wanting readers would be the "Bartenders" :)

IMO, i think that some dont quite understand what "In the Pub" section will be able to do or what its there for...
Its not there to resolve arguments but to address the need of non serious, non rivert counting, non factual "chatter" and "BS"

So please let your imaginations run a bit here.. Rememeber long ago, when you were "in the Pub" with your mates you talked and shared about day to day stuff and nothing in particular...
But if "Billy" was talking about his pet goat again, you would go talk to your other mate and get into his conversation about CPU's that is of more interest to you......

So i will start a small list below of what sections could be "In the Pub".. I hope others can contribute to the list if they've been able to get past "let your imaginations run"

"Mysterious Tools"............. Got a tool in the shed that you have acquired and dont know how, what why...

"Funny Photo's and Picture's "................

"humorous Video's"..........

" My latest recipe"...........

" Computer/I.T. Dot to Dot Help"...........

"Grandchild Humour".........

"Latest Project"..........

"Other Hobbies"......

Make up the sections as it evolves/required

Anything you want to discuss or share Non/Norton you can do "In the Pub".... Thats if Managment approves of course........

OlChris makes good points above....if it took most of the "pollution" off the Classic Commando" category, it would be worth having. However, the Forum membership has thus far been unable to police itself, and seems to post any non-Cdo specific topic in that place. Moreover, there is a "General Discussion" category that serves the save purpose, but few use it. Would changing the name "General Discussion" to "In the Pub" do anything?

This seems like a good idea to me and also the one about changing the name for the general discussion to in the pub sounds good to so I'll vote in the affirmative, and since I'm not a vip member I won't have to wade through all the crapola :D

Does this mean we'll get Phil Yates back?
He'd close the pub down.
