I'm changing out a front drum brake cable on my Velocette with new one which has an in line switch as below so I can have brake light on with front.
In Line Cable Switch?

How does this type of switch operate? I tried checking with my Ohmmeter while pulling cable taught but could not get switch to close circuit. Is there a trick Im missing?

I bought one of those and the split cable to make it work with a little 7" SLS brake, and sent it back for a refund. I figured something was going to break before the light ever came on. That's just me though.

It is very possible that I did not pull hard enough. Although I like what I ended up using because it woks as soon as I pull the lever more than 1/8". Not relevant for a Velocette though.

I tried one of them for my 650ss - made the front brake spongey and wasn't reliable in making contact - dangerous!
So... bought a "normally closed" switch (Magura from Venhills) and made some parts to get it to work. Absolutely reliable and no sponginess.
It's on the underside of the lever, so fairly inconspicuous.
Cheers

So looks like I need to give this a proper pull on the lever...not just manually pulling the inner by hand. Will need to get it mounted up and test it again.

I always remove these switches if fitted
You need all the braking you can get these days

I have Magura cable levers on my P11. I used the normally closed switch Rob mentioned above, but the switch screws right into the Magura brake lever body. I didn't have to make anything. I figured a Velocette person would turn his her or they nose up at Magura levers, so didn't mention it.

By the way, Magura makes a black switch with the word Magura cast into the body that also screws into the Magura cable brake lever. It has a very small diameter Red button not the larger nylon one. It broke instantly when I tried to use it. The brass bodied one like the one shown up above in Rob's post, is the better switch. Treatland.tv carries the little brake switches.

Venhill, who sell similar in UK, say 10-15 kg pull on cable.
