Unfortunately some of my rides are a bit longer. Sunday driving 79 miles to Berkeley for the start of an NCNOC ride that’s going to Point Reyes. Probably three or four tanks of gas on the roadster.
 
You a lucky guy to still be able to go that far on your Norton , guess I’m softening with age , it’s one of the Italian bikes for a day ride or overnighter these days for me , plus I only know of couple other Nortons within a days ride in my local area .... sure hope you have a great ride and meet up !...... maybe you could post up some photos ,really enjoy seeing groups of the old bikes , reminds me of bygone era, I surprisingly survived !
 
If you can find a Sunoco station locally, they may have 'racing gas'. It's dreadfully expensive, but I have one locally, I use the gas mostly for the Stihl equipment, but also for the Norton, if you don't ride that much, it's real nice stuff. I use 110LL. It's the cheapest at about $60 for 5 gal. I know it's dreadful, but the stuff is really easy on the carbs and evaporates with no residue. I've never had an issue with the carbs fouling. Smells good out the exhaust too, but is probably completely illegal for on the road use. Who's ever been checked for blue gas?
 
I’m going to jinx myself but I’ve had no problems running E10 premium in all of my bikes. I run the carbs dry with star tron if sitting for more than a few weeks and keep the fuel tanks full. Any fuel that sits for more than a month or two gets siphoned into my truck which will chew up anything. I also use my motorcycle tanks to fill my riding mower and small engines. This keeps the fuel moving. I use an outboard engine priming hose and bulb to siphon the fuel. It’s worked out well. Fingers crossed.
 
Speaking of Sunoco, does anyone remember when Sunoco had pumps that allowed you to select any one of 4 or 5 octane blends?

Wouldn't it be great if such pumps were in common use today and allowed one to select non ethanol, E85, or any blend of the two in between?

They should never have taken the old fuel away from classic vehicles and motorcycles.
 
Would it be possible to run your fuel lines with a low loop in them?
I have found this helps some of the crud to settle out at the bottom of the loop.
It won't completely solve your problem, but may help delay the cleanings.

What I have always wondered with this is.....what do you do with the Ethanol you extract?

Better than a loop ...... a straight vertical drop of say 2 or 3 inches with a tap at the bottom. Fuel would tee off above the vertical drop. Some water may also collect in the drop.

Drink it :) (and for Trump supporters, don't drink it, it will send you blind) ethanol powered rocket could be fun, I bet it would run a ram jet, tip it in the car or use it to start a fire. I suppose waste disposal should be considered but thats not much fun.
The process works for removing the ethanol from fuel, but I am not sure how you would get the ethanol out of the water, distillation probably, but basically I don't think it would be that practical to use after extraction from the fuel.
 
Yeah, I am up for lighting a fire under a mainly closed container of water/ethanol mix to see what happens?

Still begs the question, how do you dispose of it in an environmentally sound way......

And before anyone says it is safe to dispose of in drains if you add enough water.....remember most houses in France have some form of fosse or septic tank! and expensive water...or a well!

I've settled my argument with myself.... Had to order tires for my old GL1000 so the 850 is getting a pair of Evolutions ordered this week...... I know..... It does nothing about ethanol.... but the Amals are at the end of their run and pretty much used up. If you give one child a gift the other has to get something too.

This way I'm not racking up all of the miles on my Norton and it won't break me providing it with good food for those special rides.
