Are there two types of rubber/plastic covers for the ignition switch? My 73 has the "master" switch and the new cover I bought will not go on all the way. Seems like it should be longer. The wires are nicely compacted and I even put some shrink wrap on to keep it clean but the cover just won't play nice. Only one # in my parts books. What's the deal? If there is another type of cover does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks for the help with my daily questions. Glenn.

Yes, the early style was one piece (P/N 062061) which was replaced about 1974 with the two piece cover (P/N 064891 and 064892). Most vendors seem to only carry the two piece cover, so perhaps you only have one of the two pieces? I see OldBritts has the old part number but specifies it is two pieces.
If I recall the two piece version extends out from the switch and has a flap to enclose the key when inserted.

It still has a one piece orig. vinyl type switch cover.
The face of the ignition is exposed.
It slides over the ignition from the key side and has a formed flat side which faces towards the rear
to accomadate the mountinging bracket on the air box. I do not know if it was orig shaped for such or formed this
way over the 37 years. It looks to made of the same material as the orig. dust covers were made of on the Isolastics.
Those ripped when I tried to peel them back due to age and dry rot. I replaced w/ new style rubber type.
I see a 2 piece offered by most Brit bike vendors. I think the 1 piece orig. is something you are going to have to find at a
swap meet or such. I have not seen it offered in the US as a new part. I started my restoration on 2004 and finally had it on the road May 2008. I've dealt w/ allot of vendors and no one has ever offered one to my knowledge.

Yes, RonL is right - the original piece 06-2061 was replaced by the two-piece set-up(06-4891back, 06-4892 front), with the front piece slit to form a sort of flap over the key slot. I stopped by Wes' shop today, and the Andover Norton 'cheat sheet' shows the part superseded by this two-piece arrangement. He also has a half dozen of each piece ($10.30 for the back and $12.68 for the front)
There were also two Commandos in the shop - a '72 with the one-piece set-up, and a '74 with the two-piece. It would seem to me the two-piece cover was a budget-minded attempt to provide weather protection for the switch.
