Hi , I am trying to find some history on a Norton Commando that I bought here in Australia about 10 years ago that was imported from California .

It is currently set up as a Fastback with Fibreglass tank ,seat and ducktail.

The chasis number is 130727 and it has a centrally mounted oil tank so i am thinking the chasis was probably a Roadster and the import papers claimed it was a 1969 model so i am guessing it may have originally had a 750 Combat motor.

It currently has an 850 engine with the number being 305940  which maybe a 72 model and the gearbox number is 132476.

Whilst looking perfect when i bought it I soon found that the bike may have been in a crash before it was imported into Australia because  the fibreglass tank required replacing as it had some serious damage that had been hidden under a new paint job .

This bike has a lot of upgrades since i owned it and currently has about 32,000 mikes on the green spot speedo but the front shimmed isolasitcs  were abslotely shot to pieces plus a lot of other issues that before repair i believe would have made the bike a danger to ride .

Just wondering where I look for a database that may give me more details on the age of various components and maybe history .

thanks

Wheelie
