I think I found my problem

Last week, my bike began running strange shortly after I left on a ride so I just returned home and parked it until I had time to check it out.
Well today, I fired it up (with a bit more effort than normal) and noticed that I had excessive blowby.

I started investigating and this is what I found:

Well you found the damage, but what is the problem? Poorly manufactured gasket? Head not torqued correctly? Head warped? I imagine there are other possibilites. Point is you don't want it to happen again.
 
Theres a possability that that might be something to do with it .( Blowby ) . :P :lol:

Usea the copper presure sealing compound ( like Koper Kote ) if you must use a coppper head gasket. And ANEAL the b#*^ thing before fitting.
 
I'd say the bolts probably loosened up a tad and it was a pretty old head gasket.
I have heard of.... but never experienced a copper gasket blowing before.
I got my moneys worth out of that one.

The bike isn't going anywhere until I get another gasket ordered.
On the bright side........ If I have to be down, I would rather have it be in the winter.
 
Copper gaskets weep more than they blow. So I'd say yours has been leaking a little for a long time before it blew completely like that.

Which is good news, when you button it up with a nice new gasket it should hopefully run a little better.

But, as it has probably been weeping in that area for a while, you really should get the head checked to ensure it is still properly flat. Otherwise you may repeat the whole exercise!

My RH10 head always weeped oil in that same place. Turns out both it and the barrels both needed a skim to level them.

But, I didnt do the RH10 for a new FA head, which Mr. Comstock did.
