Were twenty-five years that doesn't put hands on a motorcycle.
In September last year I opened the crates and after eight months of work (and a lot of money spent!) I finally finished!.
Having already a Fastback 1970 standard, I wanted to reconstruct a Fastback with the pieces of various years that I preferred.
Now remains to solve some small problems, I have to mount the rear master cylinder (an AP Racing Lochkeed is coming from England), the horn does not work (but know why) and I have to check better the rear stop light.
Engine, gearbox, wiring, paint, and all and all, completely renewed.
Now I am going on holiday (i will visit Canada from 15 june to 2 of july) and in the midle of July i will have the first ride.
I still have two other commando (one Dunstallizzer and other Roadster, entirely dismantled into pieces) to replace but I think after this pleasant experience I will go very very long before I dedicate myself again, altoughI will not miss my help to two of my dear friends (cousin Mario and Luigi) that they too are undergoing complete restoration of a Roadster and a Fastback.
Finally, I would like to express my thanks to the fans of this blog from which I have received many useful tips.
Thanks.
Ciao.
Piero

In the last picture i am not me but my cousin Mario, a true enthusiast who is rebuilding his roadster.

Top job Piero, you done a nice job there, congratulations, now whats next??

Definitely uplifing to see you and the fine detailed Cdo freatures that makes me see you like Clint Eastwood on his Commando. The dangling ignition coil leads sure look like what I snagged off VW cars to keep the color coding straight in my 1st Cdo rebuild.

Very nice, I've enjoyed your questions and progress during the build.
Great job!

OHHH. I'd like to see that FF bronze one with disk brakes and upswept peashooters. Just my opinion.

beautiful. I am going with fireflake golden bronze, every time I see one I like it more and more.

I just had a "doh" moment. Is the fastback seat why the roadster tank has the depressions in the sides at the back of the tank?

The seat is a Fastback model sure (Pleasantly not usable with Roadster thank), but not new with the black skin cut and Stitched by me.
The foam padding has been shaped by me too.
The folds and depressions should take off with the use when it will flatten foam on the skin.
Of course it would have been easier to buy a new saddle but I have more satisfaction to build the pieces although aren't perfect.

Please, what means "doh"? Is a new word that i cannot able to translate.

Ciao.

Piero - bravo, nice job! And good photos. I think the disc brakes front and rear look well on the Fastback. I am sure you do not miss the original drum brakes, and you certainly need good brakes in Italy!

Dave

I would have to say you did a fine job on the fastback. I like the fact that you do everything yourself. I am the same. Not the same joy in having it all done for you and just assembling the bits. Great job!

Dear Dave,
I'd really like to have it, but I don't have the front drum brake.
This commando is a puzzle of three bike that I'd kept since 1980 (more other parts that i bought now) but none of the three is the front drum brake 1969/70, are all 1971 but with front disk.
In particular, this Commando was a 14 ....., with engine, gearbox and frame matching.
Even with two disc brakes I fear that braking will not be exciting.
Otherwise the next Dunstallizzer Commando i will go to rebuilt will have three disc brakes with three calipers and masters cylinder Lockheed AP Racing, but ... .... ...... this will happen in the very next coming years.
Ciao.

ciao piero,
great stuff there. I am a fastback lover too...

brakes: I've changed the Master Cilinder to the Andover Norton one (mick hemmings sells that one too) and it works perfectly well. I mean it. My commando now brakes like a modern bike (though,I rode a modern bike...).

Good to see some other italian folks in the forum.

Teniamoci in contatto!
Orso.
