Hello again guys, well, I’m new to the Dominator and need to take care of him so I will have a lot of questions for you and requests for your much appreciated advices and help.

I need the ECU flash cable for the Norton Dominator 2020 omex management system to read errors and to map the de cat pipes with the short slip ons.

I see there are a few Norton workshops here, who can sell me one please?

Thank you.

Hi - you will see a few threads about this at the moment. You need a special cable - it would not be difficult to make - then you use the OMEX program to connect to the ECU. Norton have locked the ECU with a password - this password is in this forum but at the moment I only know of dealers who have accessed the maps and changed them. I am making a lead which should be ready this week then I will see what can be done and post the details in the forum.

Getting communication errors when talking to the ECU - this is not going to be as easy as I hoped. Tried different adapters and checked connectors are ok on scope. Perhaps try it on a win7 laptop. How much were those scs ecus........

Hello Clive , Is OMEX still not supplying the cable/interface and software for the Norton 961 ECU's ?
I just checked their site and looks like the MAP4000 software is available for download. There is also a contact us page. Have you reached out to OMEX for advice/assisstance ? What are they telling you ?

Haven't tried to be honest - last time I did not get a good response. Understandable really. Probably less chance since it is now a current model again.

Thanks CityGarage for some info it might be that the connection needs to be done with a usb CANBUS interface - this is presented on a couple of pins on the 'OBD' connector......

I gave all the information to a very good Dyno technician, he will try to make up a cable. If it will work I will give cables to everyone who wants one for free. He is very busy and I assume it will take a few weeks until I will have answers…

And again big thanks to everyone here including City Garage and the Great Stu

I will be interested if you can get a cable working - I have tried but cannot get the software to read what is coming back from the ECU. I tried a few OBD readers but they did not work. I have a background in electronics and looked at the signals with an oscilloscope and the data rate just did not look correct. I have sent a 'please help the factory will not support us' message to Omex so I will see if they can assist.

Well no reply from Omex and Norton are not able to provide any information other than they use the same connector. Don’t even know if they are using the same ECU as the Euro4. Shame they can’t support us existing Norton owners as a gesture toward the Norton community if they are as committed to the brand and heritage as they say. I am thinking at the moment that the most useful tool would be a set of replacement sensors for owners to borrow to try to work out which one has failed. I am sure between us we could get something together. Turns out my problem was the MAP sensor.......

Doesn't Stu Bodycote have a working cable/interface and software (MAP4000) for the OMEX ecu's ? Is there a data converter module in the cable possibly ? It will never work if it needs the converter , this is what the SCS ecu interface uses not a straight cable .

Despite all the discussion and recommendations, I have still not found someone who says 'I am using the Omex MAP4000 software and can talk to the ECU' on a Euro4 or equivalent ECU equipped bike.

I second that.

@Stu Bodycote Are you using it?
We are crushing here trying to reach to the cable…
Dear Stu, is it possible for you to make us this cable at a cost of course?

One for the fellow nerdies the first signal is what's being sent out and the second what is coming back. Same timescale.

I can make a cable, but time taken would make it expensive. Also, since my laptop went for repair, Ive lost the euro 4 gin files ......so a cable would be useless on its own.
Luckily, I dont need it. If there's a fault and the bike runs like crap, its pretty easy to diagnose with just a multimeter. If it runs fine but the eml is on, then its most likely just a sporadic reading from the camshaft sensor that the ecu picked up as being out of range. Nothing to worry about, its a case of them just making the acceptable parameters too tight. You can clear the light on the road yourself.

Thanks Stu - I really want to put this one to bed. So the cable is a plain obd connector with tx/rx on pins 1 and 9 and gnd on 4&5. This goes to 9way D pins rx/tx to pins 2&3 with gnd to 5. For the software I wonder if there is a Serial Telemetry Setup definition file to use with MAP4000 as well as the gin files?

I have not had any problems with tickover and when I needed to ritchen the mixture I just put bigger injectors which give me benefit when it's running open-loop. The only reason to hook into the ECU would be for fault diagnosis but with a set of good spare sensors you can just swap until works, as I did the other day to work out that the MAP sensor had failed.

To change fueling maps I can't see a way round this if you no longer have definition files unless a dealer like Krazy Horse has something or you swap to a SCS Delta ECU.

Ok, BUT how do you remap the decat pipes with the short slip ons🤔 Or even just change the long standard ridiculous torpedoes to the short slip on?
I have the maps but need the cable to do so.
I sent you a private message, please reply...
Thanks!

Hi the answer to your message is as above from Stu - the cable is the easy bit the details are in my post above. Anyone with a soldering iron could make it up with connectors off ebay. The problem seems to be with the software. The map files are just part of the equation - with all the vast range of experience on this forum including the mighty Wizard Stu of Bodycote nobody has managed to get the connection working for a euro 4 Omex ECU. If anyone can prove me wrong then please do so! My recommendation would be to try some of the old dealers to see if they have a laptop somewhere with the software on. I understand your frustration - there are engine parts I need from Norton and despite my involvement with them they WILL NOT tell me if the parts have been modified and so will fit if I purchase them.

We all try to support each other on this forum and a lot of issues have been solved but some have not been sorted and are going to be difficult.
