I knew I would be in trouble

This afternoon I spent about 2 and a half hours scrubbing the calcium rings out of 3 toilets. The kids are all coming for Thanksgiving so we decided to do some deep cleaning. A friend of mine used some harsh acid to get his clean and it etched the porcelain to the point that the toilets get the deposits much faster now. I had the bright idea to just use a sanding block. I tried it with one of those sponges that has sandpaper on it and it worked great! My drill, scotch bright pads and a 12 inch extension made it go even faster. Two and a half hours later it all looked real good and I was worn out.

When I showed my wife, I quipped, "You need to come see this. I think I'm in trouble though." And, sure enough. She was amazed and then dismayed, "If you knew how to do this then why didn't you do it a long time ago!" she said.

I'm going to give it some time and see whether or not I am better off.

Yes, you are in trouble now.

1) If you have scratched the porcelain, same effect as your friend who used acid.....you will be doing this more often.

2) Whether you scratched the porcelain or not, it is now YOUR job....but I think you already know that. Maybe you can get the wife to polish the Norton, when you are in commode mode.

You done it now and have to suffer your own fate, thats one job she won't be doing again.

I had a friend in high school who managed to get his thumb in every picture he took. By the time he was 18, he was never asked to take anyone's pic.

Brillo pads are great for aluminium, they make it shine just like you had polished it, good for chrome too.

MAKE SURE TO USE ONLY THE STEEL WOOL ONES!

the plastic ones will scratch aluminium and even chrome.

BAD ADVICE :!: :shock:
Chrome plating is microns thick and steel wool will without question scratch it.

Chrome is very very hard and will not be harmed by steel wool but for some obscure reason will be scored by the plastic ones. Chrome is NOT microns thick, it ranges from .002" to .02" Try it on your neighbor's bumper if you are afraid of doing it on your own parts.

Steel Wool comes in so many grades that one man could be thinking 0000 while another 60. I've used 0000 with polish to clean up slightly rusty chrome with great results. It wouldn't however be my first choice for clean non rusty chrome that just needed polishing.
