As many of you know I am the new curator of Debby's Silver '74 Commando. I have been getting it ready for the road. As with all, new-to-me, bikes I start with fluid changes so I have a personal bench mark. I got a Wix 51352 for this purpose but was shocked when it didn't fit. The filter that came off was a NAPA 41040. At first I thought she had installed the filter adapter but on close examination is does not look to be the case. Debby and I had many discussions about the bike and the many things she had done to it. An oil filter modification never came up.
Is there an oil filter carrier upgrade option that has a larger threaded mount? The casting is also slightly different than stock. The mounting holes are the same with two bolts on the right side of the subframe but there is a similar casting on the left side but without bolts. The whole thing fits snugly between the subframe plates. Am I just missing an upgrade option here?
