I finally have 6000 miles on my 961

I have heard more than 40,000 but on this forum Raphi is at the top with his first engine.

...and Raphi hopes he’ll do more miles with his second engine than he did with the first one till it broke!
Immagine if my engine would just have broken a year later...
May be this would then have been a start up for a Triton!

In Switzerland must be a guy with far over 30’000 miles according to what I saw at Egli’s last year!

Care to elaborate with a comparison? I'm still baffled as to why you needed it, however, I can understand your reasons for not telling.
Okay, I see now no more reason to keep it secret. My engine suddenly broke, I think it was the crankshaft, at 75 mph on the autobahn. Before I was already wondering why it lost gearbox oil without leaving puddles. Then I saw the tiny cracks in the engine case. My guess is that it came from an unbalanced balance shaft causing vibrations and subsequently, may be combined with a flaw of material, this lead to the cracks and ... BANG!

Great work, he fitted very nice racing front Brembo disks as well...
Oh wow, guys at factory last summer mentioned an owner in Switzerland that had a problem in primary side fixed at a Swiss norton dealer which caused major damage & was repaired in Germany

That looks just a little bit more serious than my exhaust baffle failure.... and at 25k miles? I thought these engines were mean't to be solid, that has got me thinking overtime now.

Well that must have been me. But I am still not sure if it was really the fault of the Swiss ex-Norton dealer...

Is that a broken balance shaft in the pic? If so it is the second one I have heard of, but the first was in a race bike so that wasn’t as concerning.

It was the warranty guy that shared it with me , spacers left of behind or around the clutch area , sure that what he said , had this chat when I asked them if any other bike had suffered the spring failure behind clutch basket that mine had , that broke teeth on primary gears /balence shaft

30,000 miles is not a long way compared to other motorcycles, but the 961 is not a motorcycle for traveling.

I thought there were 961 with higher distances.

Well ,Tony A , Richard 7 & his dad & my son & I wouldn’t agree with “ the 961 is not a motorcycle for traveling “ it can & has been done, & Curtis does rack up the miles on Long Island ,he does Like 100 each ride , my bikes next to his in the lighthouse pic

Well , my clutch had a modification done by bespoken dealer to minimise the rattling noises...
Norton said that this modif was the reason for failure. I don’t know the truth, but doesn’t matter anymore... So, must very probably have been my case you spoke with the warranty guy.

Yea. I met you at the lighthouse at Fire Island when you rode across the Atlantic. That rear tyre kept yer arse afloat. At 12K, I'm an amateur.
Most I did was 265 in one day. A little stiff afterwards, but comfy enough. 60 to 120 miles most days.

Thanks, Raphi. Sorry for being pressing. We all tend to ride in anticipation of something going wrong. My anus clenches every time something weird happens. I dread the summer months. For some reason, this bike flawless is inder 60 degrees F. Once it hits July...….. Honestly though, the bikes been shopped for excessively long times due to factory response and a pissed off dealer, but aside from a nail in the tire, a fuel light not coming on when its supposed to and a relay backing out and not having a 5MM hex on me, I've never broken down.
