I’ve always like the riding position with Norman Hyde rearsets, but there’s no way I was going to live with the ridiculous kick start position. I decide to modify a set and make them more user friendly. I cut the main alloy mounting lug down to move everything inward, coupled with a MkIII kicker lever, it clears nicely. Also made up a new shift lever to clear the kicker.

That looks so ‘right’... so much so it begs the question as to why Norm didn’t do that in the first place...?

It looks good. I've never even seen a hyde rear set, so I'm not sure what exactly you changed...

Absolutely agree...what a ridiculous position for the kick start
Well done :D

Advantage: Norton when it comes to the splined kicker v. Triumph. The spline can be a wear problem if not properly secured but allows you to position the kicker by small amounts. With the cotter approach of Triumph you have more bother to move the lever
forward for rear sets.

I recently bought the CNW electric starter and am interested in installing rearsets.
Ditching the kickstart lever should simplify the installation of rearsets.
I am not a big fan of the loopy shift lever used on many rearsets. I watch them on friends bikes and they shake and jump around like crazy.
Of the various makes of rearsets (CNW, Hyde, Norvil, etc), do any let you rotate the stock shift lever to the rear and have it in a good position relative to the right foot peg for shifting?

Next step was to clean up the brake side. Ground off the huge, ugly brake pedal that looked like something off of an old go-cart and grafted on one from a bent and busted factory pedal from the junk pile.

Nice mod on the mount I wonder if a folding kicker might fit even better, did you try that?

Also i cant believe Hyde actually created that big ugly pedal , just got a set of Hyde's that pedal will get the same mod plus a trip to the chrome shop.

I looked at the folding RGM kicker, most of the reviews I read said that it didn’t work well with rear sets, so I save my money and used a MkIII unit I had on the shelf.

What is a MkIII unit? Any pics?
