This is what I get after a highway run. If I sit at a light for a minute, it may drop to 1600. Before my accident, it never did this and I had perfect starts every time. Now, 2 to 3 tries or a little throttle. Not sure if 77 was reinstalled in place of 91 or its just developed. All Bosch and Lamda deletes performed. I may have to give this new method a try. The bike doesn't hunt and runs great on city runs, 1200 to 1300 idle, but a good highway run always seems to wind up with this annoying symptom.

Hello Britfan , If you do the IAC block and set screw adjust remember 2 things. 1) it needs to be well warmed up for final setting and 2) you need the lock nut on the set screw to keep its setting.

This problem may be resolved on the Euro 3 Omex update . Can members who have done the SC to Euro3 New Omex upgrade let us know how its going ? And can Euro3 Omex members who had it from new please chime in. The only Euro 3 Omex factory new member I am aware of is Richard Pearce. There must be others of course ?? Should we start a new thread on this ? It may be worth it because we have a lot of SC ecu 961's out there.

I've had this before when they've changed the mapping. Went ten miles turned around, high idle, back to the dealer. They remapped, good for a few thousand miles more. However, since the Lamda delete, not a gurgle. Decels perfectly. No backfires at all. Still get the funky vibes at 4300. MPG improved by a few too. 42.5 and not babying it.

Well....not really. Happy that I'm getting to take long rides at all without a tranny problem. Smiling all the way. Been a while since I can take 100 mile rides without losing clutch pressure or having a shifter lock up on me.

Not happy that my engine is idling dangerously high when having to come to a stop. Not to mention, to those around me, I am an impatient throttle loving nut.

So let me get this straight before I commence....Disconnect hose from IAM at the airbox, block with tight fitting ball bearing I'm assuming a neoprene test tube stopper would work too) reconnect hose all done with engine hot. Start engine, idle is low?? Crank it up to sufficient idle? (I like 1200 on the nose) keep in place with locknut ? Is this just rendering the IAM useless? Wondering if we could just remove it total and block it at the mounting area.

Please don't disconnect and block your IAM. We had some ex dealers several years ago who tried this thinking it was a good idea, but it really isn't.

Basically, the ECU will 're-learn' every time you start the bike, and it just leans the fuelling off every time you start up, causing catastrophic engine failure.
 
Hello Rob , Are they getting good results with the New Euro 3 OMEX upgrades from the old SC ? And if we order that upgrade can we get it with the appropriate Map already installed for our exhaust upon delivery ? Also I have heard that the support bracket may be an issue if you previously had the SC ? Has this been sorted out for the older 961's like mine (2014) ?.

Hmmm. Its too bad so many bikes have issues but no solution. We’ve been asking for a solution since 2013 still haven’t heard of one. Nor did Simon ever tell us about catastrophic engine failures when we asked about doing this years ago. ,........ I’ll find my emails and post the factory replies on this topic to share the advice on this very topic.

Anyhow....

So there you have it folks. Don’t do this.!!! Its too bad because my bike runs soo perfect now.
 
Are you saying you have a solution to this issue. In Canada and I believe usa too, emissions related items must be covered by manufacturers by law for 5years. So providing I make a claim at a dealer before August 2019 my bike is covered for the fix just not anything else.

Is the fix easy Rob? I want to get this process started and done and remove the blockage.

By the way; ive done over 2,000miles blocked. Plugs look great. Not lean at all. My dads done well over 4,000miles with his like this. Maybe more. Ive never heard of anyone else doing it nor have I done it to any of the local bikes. So at least there will only be two catastrophic engine failures to be had.

i am not up on the new nortons BUT if it is a self learn system with a O2 sensor than just how can it learn to run lean enough to cause engine damage. now with you guys doing the O2 delete with a resistor than all bets are off. the lack of support on the new bikes with high - runaway idle sure looks like a huge safety issue and something for a regulatory agency to be involved with.

Maybe I am not understanding here? I get that a high idle is a pain/inconvenience but I don’t get where it is dangerous. At idle the bike is not in gear so not in danger of moving forward? I have just got back from a 60 mile run to high beech - my bike idles at about 1200 and needs about 2100rpm to move off in first gear - so a slightly high idle of 1500/1800 doesn’t affect moving off?
I get that “hunting” at speed is dangerous and can cause surging - not good when slowing - is this the Issue?
