Hi I am looking for some guidance on removing the MK3 steering lock. It appears to have a pin through it on one side. What is the best way to remove it Thx Drummer 99

Dunno. Mine's in there tight on both my MK 111 's. Why remove it ? Just tape it off and spray yer paint ?
At my age loosing the keys are way more important. I put the graphite dry lubricant puffer thingy to it about once a year.
Rarely use it , just look at true motorbike theft statistics. Good luck.

I asked the same question, given that mine had a broken piece of key corroded inside it, so now have a gleaming new unit to replace it.... It IS a lot of faffing about, given the steering stem is part of the top yoke, so major dismantling probably required. I was always under the impression the best way to remove roll pins was to drill them out, but that idea was questioned due to it's hardness, some suggested shearing it off by a sharp blow on the lock, but I ain't brave enough for that one.
Hopefully someone else will come up with a tried and tested method, I take a padlock and chain everywhere with me, but it would be handy to have this OE option at times....

If it's not possible to tap the pin all the way through with a pin punch I have managed to pull them out by screwing in a self tapper which is only very slightly larger that the hole in the centre of the roll pin and pull on it with grips.

It's in a blind hole :-) And the centre hole can't be much more than 1mm, if that. In truth I've yet to tackle it, as I've no need nor wish to pull the front end apart at the moment. I just assume that it would be quite easy to do more harm than good going at it with brute force if (like my intention) you want to re-use the hole in the top yoke...

Possibly to make it hard to remove. It IS a security item, when all is said and done :-)
Plus the lock is basically a hollow cylinder with a central sliding piston, so you couldn't push a hole through it.....
