How much hp to drive oil pumps

I might call or email SRM since they make them. You should be able to get the data to punch into your calculator from them.

What we do know is that the calculation will depend on the relative condition of the pump, the PRV, and the oil used. The fact that it will be much less when hot is a given. Maybe you will have to estimate the viscosity index due to the fact that we are air cooled.

Good luck.

Hijack alert!
Hey, I wonder how much HP it takes to drive a Magneto and how much beyond its effectiveness does it overcompensate.

Mc-engine list was discussing electric oil pumps and power to drive em but after years of reading about Nortons and tales of zero pressure on hwy and the recent discovery of free wheeling oil pump cog over 3000 miles w/o any detectable issues, I think its just an academic side line for expert worry warts seeking more oil pumping for some reason. if engine clearances and pump effective to maintain over 50 PSI of hot oil at hi rpm then might be detectable drain on dyno. Norton alternators at full output up to 3 phase 210 watts might drag off asd much as 1/3 hp. Contact breakers magneto maybe .035 hp.
