Well, I am very happy with the news on the front cover of the Aussie magazine, Motorcycle Trader "Norton Commando prices are rising faster than the water level on the Titanic so get yours soon".
My 72 Roadster cost me A$12000 this time last year, from a dealer in Melbourne. It came from Detroit.
Must have been in poor shape due to the new pipes, covers, glass tank, headlight, blinkers, bars etc. dealer fitted to pretty her up .
It worked... sure looked great on e-bay,maybe I should have taken her for a ride.
Went 500m down the road (upright) on delivery day and has not run right since, but I am working on that with new Tri - spark ignition (Australian made), coils, leads and correct carby bits arriving from UK this week.
The point being that I am never going to lose with this baby and maybe one day, in my old age, may even turn a slight profit.
If any of this helps.... good.

I purchased my 750 for $500 in the 1990s. I was working with this guy, he had a t-shirt printing businesses, and in the back of his shop he had a couple of cars covered by a tarp. One day he pulled the tarp back and sitting between the two cars was a very sad looking Norton. He said "I'll bet you don't know what that is?" "Not only do i know what it is" I replied, "I know every piece on it." I reveled to him how i used to work on them back in the day. Several days later he confided in me that he was never going to get around to restoring the bike and he said he would let me have it for $500 if i promised to restore and ride it and not flip it. I still have it. Every time I am tempted to sell it I just go ride it.

In the late 80s I purchased a 1975 850 and a 750 in a box both for $500. The 850 was locked up. The guy was insulted at my offer but I told him, "a locked up bike could be anything." As it turns out it was just a rusted bore and stuck rings. A bit of WD40 and come air pressure soon had that sorted. That was a nice bike. I also built a cafe racer, of sorts, out of the box of bits and stuff I had on hand. It was nice too. I wish I had never sold any of them. I don't think I could get a Norton for $500 today. I saw an Atlas engine and transmission, listed locally on CL for $1200.

Commando's are going up in value, i paid £5500 for my 6000 miles one owner MK 3 two year' s ago, just been offered £6250 ,but ebay would see her fetch a bit more. Mayby £6750. £1250 increase in two years aint bad.... better than saving's accounts.
Here in the UK commando price's have been slow, but as Vincents and Norton inters have flow up, well the "draft as sucke"d up Commando prices. I recon in another five years £10000 will be the Norm. for a good one, Shed hacks are being restored weekly, that reflects the market.

Here in NZ above 8K us seems to be the stating point, this add has been running for a while now, the guy is a natural salesman...on and I don't think the Rocket 3 is for sale....
