You got to be kidding me. What a dinosaur website this is. Now I remember why I never use it. I had some useful info to post, but who has the time to go through all that just to post a file. I don't use Photo bucket!

Thanks anyway,

Believe me I would love nothing more than to be active on this site, but the process for uploading files is way too time prohibitive. Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, I don't blame the members, I just feel it's a poor site design. I have found members here to be very helpful and I appreciate that.

If you want to see how an on-line forum should work look here. http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/alfa-ro ... cal-forums. Their search engine actually works. I tried every conceivable search word to find "How to post photos" on this site and found "0".

Cheers,

Yeah, I put up with the awkward photobucket procedure, but I always wonder why. I'm on about 10 other forums and its easy to directly upload pics from my computer. Does it cost the site more to do that or what?
This forum is so valuable and interesting to me that I'll do whatever it takes, but I wish we had direct upload.

You can post photos directly if you are a VIP member, which involves paying a fee that supports the site. Any members who's name appears in "blue" (at least on my color scheme they show up as blue), i.e., "concours, L.A.B., comnoz, lcrken, DogT, etc, is a VIP member and can post directly. Others have to suffer through the process of using an intermediary photo hosting site, i.e., PhotoBucket, etc if they want to post photos.

EDIT - while I was drafting, LAB posted, so apologies for duplication of information

Hey Ho frustrated Norton I quit this forum for years d/t its digital hassles but was worth it so far. Anywho if ya send me your photos < hobot@madisoncounty.net> I'll do a photobucket album of just your and stick here for you to explain. Once a photo put on forum ya can just r click on it to copy image location, the tag image icon above post typing page then paste image URL inside.

Strobe Timing a Norton Atlas with a Boyer Bransden Electroni

Strobe Timing a Norton Atlas with a Boyer Bransden Electronic Ignition
Here is a little trick I discovered and haven't seen posted anywhere else. For Boyer timing the later Norton Atlas (1967-1968) with the distributor at the back of the engine, I made a timing disk 3 inches in diameter. I though there must be a better way than only relying on the static ignition method for setting up the Boyer.

1)Remove the spark plugs and primary cover. Rotate the engine to TDC. I won't go into detail here on how to accomplish that. It has ben explained before.
2)Print and cut out the paper timing disk. It should be almost 3 inches in diameter.
3)Take a punch or an awl and punch through the center of the disk. With the disk centered on the awl, place the point of the awl in the center of the recessed end of crank shaft.
4)Rotate the disk until the TDC mark on the paper timing disk lines up with the rotor mark. Take another sharp awl and scratch a small line in the stator casing. I made a small punch mark through the paper disk. Now do the same thing for 30º BTDC.
5)Remove the disk
6)Take a small straight edge and line it up from the center of the crank shaft to the marks you scribed. Scratch the line deeper and long enough to be clearly seen.
7)I painted a little white line on the rotor for visibility. Black might have been better.
8)Now you have your timing marks to use with a timing light similar to that of the Commando case. I used 30º and not 31º because it is close enough.

That's it, it worked perfect for me.

Cheers,

Thanks Hobot and the rest. As you can see I decided to bite the bullet and slog along with the rest of you. I will post the the Boyer timing as a separate blog.

Thanks again...

I dont like the ads on the alpha website. I think you were a bit rude with your comment above. Perhaps you should go find another forum to post in that is more suited to you.

Thanks
Jerry
