That's an excellent family photo to have. Hope you've got it up in a frame.

WOW, Seriously that's so great. Wearing a suit and smoking a cigarette no less. It's hard to fathom 1928, given where we are today...

Wearing a suit and tie, smoking a woodbine yep pic takes you right back to 1928

Any idea where that photo was taken, Jerry??
(My father was a diesel fitter at Ulting for a good few years)

I am not sure where it was taken, probably in the Ulting area (Essex, England so others know) . Possibly at my great grandads blacksmiths shop. He was probably heading out to have a few bevys with my grandma.

That is a seriously cool photo ! Be sure you hang on to that one forever ! Thanks for putting it up

Here is a little bit more history about my great grandpa (Ernest Doe) and his 3 sons, one of which was my grandpa. Not much mentioned about Herbert here though as this is about his brothers business: click here

Yes that's an awesome photo, your Grandad looks like he was a cool cat and rode a cool bike.

Another snapshot of those far off times:
On 2nd March 1893 Ernest was apprenticed by his father, Charles Doe, miller of Terling, to serve with George Wood, blacksmith of Hatfield Peverel. Among conditions imposed on Ernest were: He shall not contract matrimony within said term, not play at cards or dice tables or any other unlawful games... haunt taverns or playhouses....
