Hello, absolute novice here needing some help.

Looking at buying a P11a Ranger, no problem in identifying the mechanical spec of this model but am confused about the ex factory spec for the styling.

So …… were P11a Rangers ever produced with single seat and high level pipes ?
If so , did the frame have pillion foot peg lugs and the tubular front mudguard brace for the rear of the single seat

Thanks Richard

No, Rangers had low level exhaust and dual seat, with ppassenger legs. Only the original P11 came as a solo model with high pipes, but many owners use them because they look great!

Thanks for info, it‘s what I thought but i find the whole P11 quite confusing. I guess there’s not enough to warrant a good book. Thanks again Richard

O.K. there is another issue here. According to some "experts" there were four versions of the P11.
The '67 P11 early Hi-Pipe, single seat, no passenger peg, no chainguard model; the P11A with longer seat, no tank stripes, low pipes, alloy taillight; the P11A Ranger, which is very nebulous and one theory is Berliner created this with a letter (I have a copy) that instructed dealers that all future shipments would be called P11A Ranger; and finally the Ranger 750 which appears in the brochure shown by P400 above.

It should also be noted that there were three versions of the frame. The early P11 hi-pipe frame without the keyswitch mount but with the rear seat mounts and crossmember for the seat. The P11A frame with the keyswitch mount, no rear crossmember and no rear seat mounts. The crossmember was on the rear fender mount and contained the rear seat mounts. The third frame is the Ranger 750 frame which has the front mount for the longer rear fender and peg to mount the front of the seat (N15 type seat).

Some claim the P11A Ranger was created by the use of chrome fenders rather than alloy, but others have reported use of chrome fenders on early P11A's and even a mixture of alloy and chrome on the same bike!

By the way 3 different length rear fenders were used. P11 was the shortest, the P11A somewhat longer, and the Ranger 750 the longest.

Hi Richard, I have P11, P11A, P11A Ranger and Ranger 750, they are all a little bit different, but many parts were mixed up on bikes over the ensuing years so it’s a bit of a minefield, also most people seem to go for the hi pipes whatever they have. Roddy Allan

Was trying to find any evidence of any conformity re: the fitting of hub covers as mine was high pipe with the covers, though that above and one of the original road test bikes show removed/not present...
But... Roy Bacon's 'Dominator Twins' book shows hi pipe no covers, Reg No: RJD 45E..
Same number plate then appears on P11a road tested by Motorcycle Sport in May '68!

The Norton P11 I have was a basket case with a lot of missing parts. Hubs had the covers on them, and still do. Cases and frame serial numbers are '67 P11 according to one of the NOC data bases out there. P11 stamped gearbox. I always figured it was a late '67 P11. It does not look like one now though. Way too many funny parts on it. I am not an Norton authority, just a home garage tuner.
