Pelican,

Thanks for the heads up. I am aware of that issue and have read about it, but I'm just plain trying to get it running, so even if the scale is off a little, it should still be close enough to get running. Then I'll be able to fine tune.

I'm really considering a timing light. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Sears and Autozone. Anything special I should be looking for or are they pretty standard?

And since everyone likes pictures

Help me out.

Help me out.

I did have the wiring all cleaned up and zip tied in, then had to tear it open again to work out the ignition issue. This time I'll wait until everything's settled.

Thanks,
Ben

Well, you guys were right! Got to it this morning, checked the timing with the pencil in the cylinder hole and sure enough it was wrong. Made the appropriate changes, rigged up my gas, choked and kicked through twice, ignition on and she went on one kick! What a relief! Barely smoked at all on start up and cleared within 15 seconds. A while later it fired on one kick again. Then a while later it wouldn't go. The plugs were fouled pretty bad, cleaned 'em up and it fired on one kick again so its a little rich I would say. I took the choke off immediately after starting, so that shouldn't have fouled them. Needle is at the middle notch and the mixture screw is 1 1/2 turns out (Mikuni Carb). I can't ride it yet because I don't have my stinkin' tank back from paint yet and whats worse is that I won't be able to get back to it again for another 2 weeks! So is life I guess.

Anyway, can't thank everybody enough, you've sure made this a breeze for me. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it rides when I get my chance.

Thanks again,
Ben
