Hello from Norton UK

Well, I've been waiting 3 months for clutch springs and I'm told that they're on backorder. I think that consumable parts should be available off the shelf at local service agencies. I'll have to wait and see when they're available and go back to riding my 850 Commando.

3 months for springs is a bit mental mate, they literally forging you a new set or something ??

Getting the overall impression that they (collectively Norton) cant keep up with the responsibilities of manufacturing a product and servicing the client base's needs that organically grows from that.

I think you have to be an "enthusiast" and reasonably mechanically minded to stick with Norton, seems to be little other than nostalgia keeping them on the road at times and nostalgia is a thin currency on which to build a sustainable future commercially speaking.

Went round the block the other day, arrived home to have a dinner plate size pool of oil appear under the bike, I actually thought to myself, how embarrassing would that have been outside the Bike Cafe up the road, the jokes about "British Engineering" would ensue. I have emailed Norton inquiring about the factory mods that I have read about on the forum in regard to "wet sumping" and airbox oil issues, even pulled the oil pump off to check on the non return valve's etc. Still no reply at all from them in 2 weeks, how long should I give them ?? there any forum knowledge on response times ?

Simple Questions too.
  1. Do I need to replace these in-line oil non return vales as old design/faulty ?
  2. Mine has no inline filter on the return from the tank ?
  3. Is the dipstick correct ?? should I be filling to the top line (lots of comments online about different length sticks) ??

Anyway its early days in this marriage so I'm willing to press on, tally hoe !! :p

Absolutely Bluey, I am one but not the other - as my bike has been at Norton for four weeks now, with a brief interlude of one day when I collected it after service and it broke down, can you guess which one?

Like they could have built you a new one in four weeks right ?

I phoned to order a spare part. Nobody answered the phones on day 1, on day 2 was told I would get a call back re: availability/price. Today is day 3. Tomorrow I will call again.

They’re all out back laying concrete...
concrete was all done on recent visit.... more like raising funds to get 650 production into gear, judging by £5 million Times article.
Meanwhile there is one staff member managing all the 800 plus orders, which he said should have 2/3 of them.....

You have now put an image in my head of Norton employees roaming the locality doing ‘Bob-a-job’...!

End of Day 3 I got an email confirming availability, start of Day 4 I had an invoice, all paid. Folk are on holidays so others not so familiar with the setup are covering, all-in-all a satisfied customer :)
