Went for a ride today on the trusty T140, thought I’d brave the salt to enjoy the empty roads with my mate on his RE Interceptor. He’s is obsessed with kit and had electric EVERYTHING on in terms of clothing.

I, of course, delighted in taking the p*ss out of him relentlessly!

I have Rukka kit and despite the -2 Celsius was quite ok, apart from a couple of areas.

First is that I think -2 Celsius really does warrant a full face lid. In these temps, with my open face lid, my face worked like I’d been to the dentist by the time I got home, my Missus thought I’d been drinking !

Second was my fingers hurt! I really need to explore the heated glove thing a bit more seriously.

I don’t want plug in things, I want battery powered / re-chargeable gloves.

Any recommendations from you hardy fellows...?

Have heated grips on all my bikes , I think you are correct in looking for up to date heated gloves , sorry no suggestions yet ....

I'm waiting also.... Stone age here no heated anything, but Tour Master jacket is great for most any occasion.... no help for cold digits though.

You will need to carry a substantial battery around with you, your only hope is to fix h/bar muffs reinforced with wire/tube fixed to your bars, and heat reflected gloves.
If your bike is watercooled, fit a small funnel behind the radiator for each muff, running a tube into the clutch cable/ brake hydraulic pipe to provide free heat. Been there, done that. . . . .

My heated vest has a spot to connect heated gloves as well , yes I plug cable in just below seat on left side , no issues .... forget mostly that I’m connected to bike , the plugs separate easily so no worries .... with gloves I suspect once off they would just jangle on end of sleeve , I could live with that as well .... do have a pair of Klim leather insulated gloves with goretex bonded to leather so lining stays in gloves ,always with the grips on with these gloves usually good to -4C .... cooler than that I stay home .... still battery heated gloves might be better ... but so would a pair connected at vest power supply ....

I pref heated grips and decent gloves. I was able to commute to work in 25F weather one winter.

I have heated grips on the Guzzi, that’s my winter bike anyways.

My wing has an ACC plug inside the left panel so I can do some plug-in gloves on it. Don't know what to do with the Norton though... Some battery type would do alright coz never ride it that far/long in preservation interests.... This and proper clothing I'll do these days due to advancing age, but I just am not giving up my open-face helmet. Christ! I wear good ski goggles, if forced into FF I'd just as soon climb into my truck and turn on the heater.
Sorry for dragging off topic somewhat while I argue with myself.... age showing you know.

You have a Goldwing and you’re complaining that a FF would make you too soft?

Hi Nigel

RST very good indeed. I would like them a bit thinner but they‘re not! Try out first if possible .

Happy new year

Martin

Thanks Martin, I’ll check those out as soon as the shops here open up again, trouble is that might be spring time (not a joke) !

Ref heated grips (swoosh etc) I don’t like ‘em! I confess I’ve only had one bike with them, but I found the sensation strange and although my palms got hot, my fingertips were still froz! Anyway, my ‘winter bike’ is my T140 and has the barrel shaped ‘Beston’ grips which aren’t compatible with heated grips.

That Goldwing in question is now almost 42, so only slightly younger than the Commando. In the old days everything had to be added on after one bought the bare bones 2-wheeled boxcar which was originally designed by our Nippon buddies to be a cruiser. Skinny front wheel, unstable under 40 mph too. Highly desirable for old fools, but runs like scalded cat from 20 mph roll & falls on side at stops when careless or slow turn. Highly desirable indeed. Balanced like a rotten egg..... Still need gloves though.

There are a lot of heated gloves on offer. Agree that you have to buy from a shop because you need to actually try them on. With modern battery packs you can get 4 hours which is likely about as far as you would want to go at the freezing level anyway. However for me fat gloves make riding difficult but below 40F you NEED heated
gloves for safety if not comfort. I can remember being so cold I could not pull the brake or the clutch in.

Don’t you have something else to ride in winter , a Guzzi should never suffer such an indignity ....

Needs a bigger faring so you can dress lighter..... Joe like'um big faring in cold wet weather much.... or just cold these days.
Like your Guzzer too., although I prefer the old ones.

I had a 850T but the V11 Sport was always on my dream list.
