Might as well push the thread further into the weeds!

Wow! Has this thread gone into the weeds. That said, I'm really enjoying my education regarding the old BSAs. I would own a BSA for one reason, and only one reason.... that candy apple red and chrome gas tank! ;)

That's as good a reason as any of the others we invent to justify buying bikes.

Coming w-a-a-y back to the original post, if you were to drop the concerns about peak horsepower, a significant and inexpensive modification on any Norton big twin is to reduce your gearing. A 19 tooth engine sprocket will make a Commando all kinds of fun everywhere you ride it, except maybe the freeway.
Hey OP, I do remember Head Quarters up in Ontario. I had the heads of my '91 Evo done and that bike is running well to this day, now owned by one of my sons. It's got something like 93k miles on it with no follow-up valve work. The owner's name escapes me; I talked to him on the phone a few times and he was a very knowledgeable enthusiast. He's now retired in Port Lambton, having sold the business. Their web page is still out there, but they don't get much attention on the Harley forums any more.
