Scot,It looks like you got it right. I believe they call that pin a tappet, made out of non-conducting fibre. Behind the points assy is a face cam. Think of the face cam as a wavy potato chip, with a high spot and a low spot. As the tappet passes over it, the cam raises and lowers the tappet and thus opens and closes the points. Good luck, I just adjusted mine a couple of months ago.
