I read on a UK Roadracing forum that our friend Mick Hemmings passed in the night. If there were a Commando racer among us, it was him.

Damn... he was so good to me over the years, and was, and will always be my hero. Completely gutted. I have reached out to Angie, but don't expect a hasty response.

Just saw a Facebook post. A sad lost, my condolences to Angie and family.

Thank you for everything Mick. My sincere thoughts for his family and friends.

It was quite sudden.

Condolences to Angie and Stephen

Mick was one of a kind (the best kind)
Definitely. I remember sitting and chatting in Mick's shop, on a Monday when they were shut! Mick and Angie, with Stephen in a carry cot!

Very sad to hear this
He was one of the very best we had
RIP Mick

I suppose we could start a tribute page if Jerry Doe approves. I obviously only know them over the telephone, but really appreciated the GB video which i purchased amoungst other parts and things. Anyone living in the UK, would have had much better opportunity to mix with them over the years.

I’m afraid at the current rate we’d need a general in memoriam page as I’m afraid there will be a few more in the near future as the people who made Norton what it is are getting on in age.

on a BMW website i troll they have a section just to commemorate those who have gone before us.

Who among us deserves the title "Legend"? These exceedingly rare individuals interest us, inspire us and direct us. They see and do what we cannot. They change us and the world.

Thank you, Mick Hemmings. May God wrap you in love and grace throughout eternity.

Sincerely,

Bill Walker

PS Coincidentally I've recently been viewing Mick's Norton Gearbox and Engine restoration videos. The man is/(was) a veritable ballerina in the garage. Watch his movements and methods... Poetry in motion as the cliché says. Also, I cannot recommend his videos highly enough.

I bought my methanol kitted 34mm Mk2 Amal carbs with manifolds from Mick. I was extremely pleased - he got it right first time. That is the sign of a quality service. - All I had to do was make the needle jets and find a couple of lean Mikuni needles.
I am sad to see him go. Nobody is indispensable, but some people are very difficult to replace

There is one thing I really notice as I get older. I regret I did not meet and talk to many people who did good things in motorcycle racing. One of my friends is an ex-pat Pom. He knew John Surtees. We sent a DVD of John racing to him, and he signed it. But I was too silly to get into conversation with John. A missed opportunity never comes back. And there are so many of them.

I first used Mick in 1978 and more recently a few years ago for Dommie parts. I too have the videos and have used them both, handy to have on in the garage on a lap top. I'm sure I've heard Mick say, "Not like that you idiot!" several times over my shoulder.
RIP Mick.
