Country flag
Her Majesty Elizabeth II ascended the throne in February of 1952, two weeks after I was born. The world now celebrates her 70th year as Queen.
I doubt there will ever be anyone to equal her.

70 years on the throne, god she must have a sore bottom by now, the only reason she stayed on for so long look what's coming up behind her, Charlie boy and I am born the same day as Charlie and all the problems with the rest of the family, god help us all.

Jubilee is upon us, the Beacons were lit all over the country last night....God Bless HRM!
I was a bit annoyed at the Police Escort at the trooping yesterday...looked like BMWs
why not Triumphs?

Perhaps they are waiting for Nortons to be available?

But yes, lets all raise a glass to toast HRH. A truly inspiring example who has been there all my life.

I did think of that but then figured they didn't want breakdowns in front of the palace!

It’s long been a tradition of U.K. forces to buy British where possible, and European where not, but avoid Far Eastern goods as much as they can.

It's a sad fact that as she became queen, BMC were formed, & along with Rootes & all the smaller companies Britain was the second largest car manufacturer in the world behind the US. The VW group now make more cars in a month than we make in twelve. Same sad story for motorcycles, vans, buses, lorries, machine tools....I could go on but might wear out my keyboard.

Martyn.

Too complex of a subject, but an important thing to consider is the people who BUY those items, demand lower prices. There are two (or more) ways to lower prices...

I honestly can't say why I love her so much. I'm a yank after all. But if you read or listen to her speeches when she ascended the throne at age 25 and crowned a year later, she was all about "serving Her People". She swore an oath to that effect, and has taken it seriously ever since.

"Therefore I am sure that this, my Coronation, is not the symbol of a power and a splendor that are gone but a declaration of our hopes for the future, and for the years I may, by God's Grace and Mercy, be given to reign and serve you as your Queen."

"The ceremonies you have seen today are ancient, and some of their origins are veiled in the mists of the past. But their spirit and their meaning shine through the ages never, perhaps, more brightly than now. I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust."

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, 2 June 1953. Her Majesty, The Queen.

Heavy shit for a 26 year old.

In one of her post-coronation speeches she declared having a burning desire to visit Australia and New Zealand. And the land down under spoke in one voice...

"We, therefore, Sir William John McKell, The Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Commonwealth of Australia and members of the Federal Executive Council do now hereby, with one voice and consent of tongue and heart, publish and proclaim that the High and Mighty Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary is now, by the death of our late Sovereign of happy memory, become Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of this realm and of all her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, Supreme Liege Lady in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, to whom her lieges do acknowledge all faith and constant obedience, with hearty and humble affection:"

There's loads of Union Flags being flown around where I live showing quite a bit of patriotism. Unfortunately, quite a few, upside down...sigh!
I see also the Sex Pistols have cashed in on a re-release of the single of the thread title.

I wish more would make the effort to lay on the bunting but a quick ride round on the Norton and I did grab these...
