Gettin ready to rally

I think I had heard that bike racers would add talcum powder to a freshly rebuilt motor to break it in quickly, then clean it all out and be ready for race day. Anyway, I'm trying to get ready to head to Wyoming Sunday. I hope to meet some of you there and put a real name with the forum name. I am "Chris Tulin", will be riding an 850 with black painted fenders and lots of patina if any of you want to meet (or avoid) me.

That description could fit about 100 at the rally.

Stop by the big ORANGE trailer and introduce yourself. Jim

Middle aged, balding, gray hair white male with glasses. Does that help? (I'm also 6' 4", skinny). I look forward to meeting you; I've known of you a long time, but despite living nearby I don't think we have crossed paths.

The NOC-UK and Brit Iron guys said the fine grit treatments were a British Invention first proved by the Luftwaffe during the Nazi air attacks. The English engineers reasoned that if fine enough grit was released by in front of German air craft [guess what that implies about British planning] they would inhale it to loose ring sealing and loose power and not catch up to shoot brave Brits down. Apparently it didn't take long to stop the experiment when it was found the German aircraft got a nice polishing up and better sealing and caught up to shoot down even faster yet. There used to be and may still be a very fine early nano power sold to dump in oil to polish up for better power and mileage and I was given some but couldn't detect any help but not damage either. I can not find any reference to this online so may be a myth or just the embarassed English keeping it quite.

Method to decoke is spray water into intakes while blipping, more to keep turbulance and heat up to help blast carbon turned to greyish soft power out the headers, than prevent stalling of impossible hydrolock. This is precfet time to also boop a sock filled with Bon Ami or TolalSeal's dry ring install powder, till the exhaust crap expelled clears up.

Peel's innards are cyro'd and friction coated and will dump Bon Ami in after the first start up then dump and change filter after first good run up heat cycle ring sealing bore finishing bearing cleaning polishing like a marble counter top with brass railings. But don't like like in time for a Norton gathering this year. Safe Returns with tales of survival.

I am going to put my engineering hat on today. I like the design of the idler gear instead of the chain because of no adjustments. The idler would be better if it were on the centerline between the gears. There is a picture on this site - http://www.go-faster.com/1908Triumph.html. The load should be balanced on the idler for best results.
Mcmaster Carr sells Vibration-Damping Bronze Sleeve Bearings or possible a roller bearing might reduce the stiffness and vibration.

Don't give up on the idler gear design, I think it just needs tweaking.

Yes, I have put in an order with my tool grinder for two new involute gear cutters. I have a couple more ideas to try before I give up. I have a feeling it is going to take five gears instead of the three I had been trying to do before it will work. Jim

I think I know where you are going with this Jim.

We tried plain bush on the idler gears on the 500 Norton ultra short stroke and they did not last. We use ball bearings now.
