Any gearbox gurus out there?

Got a problem going from first to second gear.
Normal cruising is no problem when changes are a bit slower but when I give it a bit of gas, second just disappears from the selector.
If I roll the throttle off slightly I can feel it snick back in on its own and I can then go to second.

It doesn't ever jump out of year just loses second.

This question is WAY above my pay grade, but I wonder if you have a problem with your gearbox camplate or maybe the indent plunger or its spring? If anything, I suppose the indent plunger spring is the biggest "wear" item (and really easy to replace) so maybe start there?

Good luck!

Hi - I had a somewhat similar problem whereby my 850 Mk2A would not go from 3rd to 2nd after a hard thrash (it was OK when gently ridden) - I had to coax the gearchange lever to get any sort of connectivity with the gearbox internals - it turned out to be the camplate - it looked OK but the steps were very 'squared-off' - strangely the new replacement seemed to have rounder steps - I fitted it and problem solved - I suspect the rounder profile enables selection more easily (note that I never had ro have problems with jumping out of gear).

I had this problem on a Tiger 100 many years ago, if I changed up into second too fast (i'm talking pedal movement not road speed) it would go just past the correct position and get somewhere between 2nd and 3rd. I remember cleaning up the 2nd gear detent in the camplate on the grinder, it's a distant memory now though, it was about 40 years ago!

Haven't renewed any selecter springs recently, have you?

No, not been into the gearbox at all.
I was wondering if its actually how I'm shifting and maybe I rush the change and pull my punches on the shift lever?

Maybe I should act my age and slow down a bit.
