G15-CS Footrest Mounting/Stud Alignment

Hi all-

I've had my G15-CS sitting for some time with the primary and the footrests off. When I went to put the footrests back on, the square mounting stud wouldn't pass through both engine plates due to misalignment. Can post pic if needed; it is fairly significant, and can't be nudged or forced back in. It wasn't this way last time I test fit. Took some encouragement previously, but this is like 5mm off.

I tried from both sides, and applied some light floor jack to the frame to see if that would align things. Can't get it to work.

Any tips on what to do? Is there a loosening and re-tightening of the engine mounting studs that can get everything back in order?

Thanks for your advice--really hoping I can get this thing on the road now that I have it running on both cylinders again.

I have a N15 that I took the engine out of some weeks back and I checked the square foot peg bar last night and it slipped in easily. I have a feeling that your bike has been dropped at some point and the frame was bent. Removing the bar allowed the stresses to unload and it tweaked your frame. I might be way off but it’s a thought.

Mike,

don't use force. The frame is very rugged and unlikely to deform. The square bolt should slide right in. Have you checked the bolt for straightness? If it's bent, have it replaced. Ensure the right spacers are used, or the engine plates will deform.

The rear engines plates are held by two stud bolts (p/n 000304, 4⅞" x ⅜" x 26tpi) at the seat post lug and the square bolt (p/n at the lower frame rails (passing through lugs).
Assuming it is straight and your problem is alignment of the plates, you need to release the two bolts at the seat post. By wiggling the engine (you may have to release the front mounts to the frame as well) the square bolt should slide in.

Thanks, guys--a little loosening of engine plates and I got it through, then retightened it all with the stud in place...
