Fuel tank started to leak around the pump flange area but could not see exactly,
Removed tank & pump, cleaned all parts and o’ring was a bit flat!,
Norton weren’t selling any parts so found a company called Simply o’ring and ordered two for about a fiver.
Size 89.69 x 5.33. Bit of blue hylomar to hold it in place and a slight smear of silicone grease on tank. Now no more leaks.
The tank pump surface is a bit distorted due to it being plastic,& with the ethanol I’m sure it will happen again!

Good to know it wasn't something more serious MAK, and thanks for sharing the O-ring size.

Hi guys, thanks for the info!

Mine has started leaking too so will try this fix!

Is yours still holding up?

Cheers,

Andy

If the o ring doesn't fix it like it didn't with mine check the tank fill cap overflow that passes through the tank. Mine was cracked and leaked down the tank to the fuel pump From the back side of the tank. Had to repair the tank from the inside.

That’s a different problem altogether…
The 961s certainly keep you on your toes!

UNFORTUNATELY they do keep you on your toes ! And now with parts availability from Norton at a standstill , looking a little grim. Don't forget Ollie Thiel for parts ! He has had high quality gaskets made up for the 961. I keep thinking that Norton will eventually come good with parts , I am beginning to loose faith now. Maybe a BIG announcement in December ?

I'm sure Stu Bodycoat can add or subtract from this. If there was indeed 2,000 961 Norton's produced between 2010 and 2019 would that not constitute a ready customer base for parts and service ? How can a motorcycle company walk away from this potential business ?

Tony do you reallythink there are only 2000? I guess that total have never been settled

Guestimate from back in 2018:

I've used Simply Bearings a few times before for O rings and oil seals, they are normally speedy and efficient.. Let's hope your tank remains sealed..

Wow 6,000 ! I would have thought 2,000 was high .

I don't know how many , but 6,000 seems way too high . I would like to be wrong though. If there really are 6,000 made that will make sense to keep spares going then. 5 bikes a week x 50 weeks = 250 per year , 10 years = 2500 bikes. To think they made 10 bikes a week or 500 a year , 10 years = 5,000 bikes seems too high to me. For them to make 10 bikes a week everything would need to be perfect , supply chain etc... When I was there 10 bikes a week would have been VERY optimistic ! But I seem to remember that SS said 10 bikes a week was a goal , but probably closer to 5 a week I think.

Tony,

The 6000 number was in an article form Octane Magazine, which was obviously, fake news.
Click on the link instead, that's where the forum estimated the probable production numbers.
A popular game this site.
