I've got a single 36mm mikuni that I just rebuilt. Is it better to run a fuel filter off each petcock, or just one filter where the line enters the carb?

I would judge that by how much stuff you were initcially collecting with the two. If almost nill then use only one. Gets rid of 2 joints.

I like fuel filters but not their appearance. On my Mikuni, I run both petcock lines down to a brass T. The one feed line to the Mikuni goes up and loops over into the carb. This is different to the neater conventional run of petcocks with a horizontal barb running straight back to the carb. The reason I run my lines down and then loop up is that any sediment from the tank will settle in lowest point which is the T, and very unlikely to travel upward to the carb. After 6 years I've never had any trace of sediment in the carb, and its a steel tank without any liner treatment. Once in while I blow out the fuel lines and all is good.

I run a single Pingel (hey, it rhymes!) just before the line enters the carb feed line (FCR carbs, one input)

I have a single mikuni on my 850.
I have not had, or needed, a fuel filter on it ever, back to 1973 even with the amals.
Modern gas is very good, just my opinion and 36 years experience.

I also took off the oil filter in 1973, not needed, no issues in 36 years, although I do have a strong magnet hanging from the dip stick.

Ditto on the Pingel. It's a two-into-one so both main and reserve feed into the filter. The filter element is washable so it should last a long time. They are pricey though!!
