Restoring a Norton 74 850 Roadster. What is the color or surface treatment for the fender stays on this bike.
Mine is a real basket-case, but appears to be black painted with SS fenders. As I look at pictures, I see lots of variation
and I am not sure what was original for that year. Triumphs were easy, SS fenders gets black painted stays, and
SS fenders get chrome stays,... for the most part.
Would appreciate a response from someone failure with this year.
Thanks

The front fender stays on my 1974 Norton Commando have the original paint and it is a light grey. It is not a real glossy grey either. Also brake fluid eats the grey paint quite nicely, ask me how I know!

You can even buy these brand new, in the silver-grey looking paint, in the bags with the green globe from AN.
Was a perfect replacement for a scrappy looking one that seemed to have had a hard life...

Re: fender stay paint

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I appreciate all the comments, ... this gives me some options I can look into.

When I removed the lower stay on my '75 Commando it still had what I believe to be the original paint in the area between the stay and the fender. I took it to my local paint shop and had them match it. It was light grey in color. They mixed me up the color and reducer together, I had the hardener at home. I used single stage with no clear coat. If you do not add the hardener to the paint it will stay for a long time in a controlled climate. Just mix it when you need it.

If you don't have a spray gun this works pretty good, I used it to spray gel coat on a boat repair. I found it at my local boat shop.
