My CLAIT certificate stands for J*ck Sh*t in these heady times.. I can remember learning about cupboards inside cupboards but then it all goes cloudy :)

I’ve just remembered I’ve got a data sim in the iPad, so I switched off my wifi and went to data roaming. The response time is the same as on wifi. The previous issues I’d had now appear to be over, all sorted. Fingers crossed.

I have issues, and it takes me longer in mornings.

But less about that, I’m not getting as many issues with the forum now. Occasionally it does stall, but then it’s off and running once more.

And in listing this, so the problem started again. Hanging in the ether, then getting a white screen and message to ‘reload’ then it opens, but then struggles to open another

@Jerry Doe - have you examined what server changes you have made in the past 4 months and how those changes could have contributed to this problem.
When I first PM'd you on this issue (Feb 17) I was under the assumption (!!!) that it was only me.
Now that it is evident that the problem is far wider, what, as site facilitator, do you intend to do?
Cheers
Rob

Folks, I have just made a change on my Ipad which seems to have improved it dramatically. On your setting page, go to the active Wifi connection and touch it. Then scroll all the way down to "Configure proxy" and touch it. Then set it to "Automatic" and save (no need to enter any URL). See if it works for you.

Edit - You may need to close your browser and re-open.

I tried that Cliffa, seemed to work great for a few minutes, then not ! Probably just coincidence.

Things still the same for me.

I just tried Cliff’s method all good , except bringing up new posts works but when I try to look at one back to slow, slow …

Hi Rob, I intend to do everything I can about it. I have not made any changes to the server that would cause this. Its hard to fix something when you cannot find anything wrong. Why is it working perfectly for me on both my iPad and my iPhone. That's what I want to know. If its a server issue then I should be experiencing these issues as well. Per an earlier post, I would like it if someone, who is having this issue and also owns a device other than and iDevice could please try to connect on the other device. I want to know if on your same network the iDevice does not work on, the other device, for example windows or android does work. If the other device does work, then its definitely not server related. I have not changed anything since yesterday morning and some of you are seeing intermittent problems.

Also, please don't threaten me with "What do you intent to do". I have done everything I can and am still trying to fix it.

I have posted at the xen (forum company) as well as at their support:

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone else has been having issues like we have. Since mid February (2021) some of our users who use iPads or iPhones have been running into very slow page load times with a white screen for a few mins prior to loading. I have been banging my head against the wall with this issue and daily user complaints. I am the server admin and cannot find any issues on our server (extensively searched logs), nor has anything changed on our server. This only happens to some users. I have an iPhone and iPad and its working fine for me. We are running the latest cPanel and cloud-Linux. The server is very powerful with 32 x 2.10GHz processors and 130 GB of RAM. The cloud linux reports show its hardly loaded (plenty of memory available etc) and there is only one other account on it, so its not load related to server I think. Just been doing regular cPanel updates. We do run mod_security, but it still happens to users with mod_security disabled.

Has anyone else been experiencing anything similar with iDevices and xenforo?

You can see a thread about this here: https://www.accessnorton.com/Norton...s-with-apple-devices.33257/page-5#post-534739

Any help truly appreciated

Jerry

Jerry , both my laptop and house computer running safari work great on the forum , just the iPhone is affected and it happens to be device most convenient to use

I heard back from forum support and this is what they say:

Hi Jerry,

We have had no such issues reported to us. This is likely a local network issue to the end user rather than the server or software.

Not sure which device Rob is using, but I can testify 100% that it is only Apple devices with 14.5.1 or 14.6 IOS Having the issue. IPad with IOS 12 works fine, Windows and Android no issues either.
my IPad is much better since I changed the proxy server setting, but still bombs out at times especially when I click on the “Forums” link on the top left.

So the next step is please test your iPad and a Windows or Android on the same network. Please let me know if its happening on the Windows or Android device as well. I really need this info to establish if its server or xenforo related or not. I cannot simulate this issue so not a test I can do. I am standing by for someone to update me. Thanks

Hi Jerry, I’m getting “ Page could not be loaded “ on my Windows PC at the moment.

Hi Cliff,

I think that pretty much sums it up. This issue does not appear to be server or forum related. Not sure what else I can do to help here. Maybe I can go break into Apple Headquarters and fix it for you. I do find it strange how my Apple devices work fine. It does seem to me that it could be a combination of Apple and Network (maybe not). I cannot remember if anyone took their iPad to a different network to test it on another network. Is it still the same on different network? I think the answer is yes, in which case it must be something to do with your iPad- am I missing something here. Seems like basic trouble shooting. I think there are 5 or 6 or you on this thread experiencing problems out of lots of iPad users who visit here. Now I really want to know what is causing it!

I will take a look at the Apple change logs.

Jerry
