First service Motorvated

I make you right Stu. Library picture of a clutch on which Richard-7 pinned the ring gear. Only two of the rivets are acceptable really.

Bloody hell, the state of those!! You see what I mean now, clearly those two aint acceptable, and that's just from that image. Wonder just how good the other two are..

I'm sure Stu Bodycoat can add or subtract from this. If there was indeed 2,000 961 Norton's produced between 2010 and 2019 would that not constitute a ready customer base for parts and service ? How can a motorcycle company walk away from this potential business ?

I'm afraid I really aint got a clue. When I started at Norton, they were in the middle of a boom. I mean they were churning bikes out at a good rate, to the point they'd dedicated a day to crating at one point. Eitherside of that, pretty much drip feeding them...so I cant really gauge how many, sorry

Back home today after Stuart at Motorvated sorted out my 961. She stopped working some months back and Stuart suggested (on some of these threads) that it could be the map sensor. So I trailered it up and had a chat about some of its other issues and issues in general about the 961. I cannot be more pleased, Stuart sorted the map sensor fitting me a second hand one (by choice) from a yamaha off ebay. Changed some relays from some unknown asia manufacturer to Bosch, fixed my warped rocker cover, sorted my cush rubbers, fitted her up with some cracking Avons front and rear, cleaned and oiled the chain, modded the oil cooler clunking issue, adjusted the oil catcher bottle, replaced some washers on my disk brakes to stainless steel, sorted my rear brake, changed the brake and clutch fluids and sorted the MOT. Several more things also. Back home on the trailer so took it for a spin and it runs sweet, cracking and popping and glad to be back with 100 kgs on top of her.

We are lucky to have Stuart and I certainly intend to be back using his superb knowledge on the 961's

I think welsh rugby (Richard ) & all that have been to “ Motivated “ Aka Stuart’s garage , will return year on year , & just a fact that hasn’t been mentioned yet , Stuart’s sorted more Norton 961,s than anyone else in the UK this year , so don’t think your local multi-franchise dealer is going to understand the quirky requirements of these bikes .

Very good news WR, time to ride now... :)

Wow, cheers for the kind words guys! Glad to hear you're happy with the bike and the work done, Richard :)
Ive got a couple of messages to reply to also...bare with me, its been a mega busy weekend, I'll get up to date with everything by this evening.
Cheers,
Stu

Since the fix with the map sensor, it does start so much easier and ticks over as I guess it always should have done. Had a great ride out on sunday morning, usual pit stop Medbourne in the Leicestershire countryside and some cracking roads to test the Avons. Checked the oil once home and middle of the knurled section of the dipstick and nothing new in the catch bottle. Only hassle I had was finding suitable fuel, had to go out of my way to splash £6 of E10 in her which I need to use up soon I can fill up with V Power or similar

Esso?

I do have one sort of near I could adopt avery 130 miles. Why better than Shell V Power or BP ?
Apparently it is truly ethanol free , it will still say E5 as they have to by law , saying it could contain ethanol up to 5%, its only areas a believe in the west county where they add a touch of ethanol, they are various things on line bout it & you tube probably

Hello WR , It must be nice having your bike back !

It's on the Esso web site under their fuel FAQs (https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels-faqs):

- How much ethanol is in Esso's E5 fuel?

- Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 contains zero ethanol, except (for logistics reasons) sites supplied from Scotland, North Wales, North England and Cornwall.

Worth checking from time to time as the rules change.

Very much so Tony. Had a nice spin out today, just loved it, avons working well, nice and warm when I got back.

My bike has been Motorvated again. Service with main oil, filter change, new camshaft bosch senser to replace the chinese one fitted, new cush rubbers, MOT, heated grips fitted (i like cold weather riding if bone dry). Stuart has re-routed my jump starter leads as well and changed the primary side oil and pushrod service. Have done just under 3500 miles. I know around 700 miles a year, pathetic. Off with my trailer to pick her up. Hope the weather is kind otherwise some mucoff polish sunday night.

Off to the NEC one day next week for motorcycle live. Going to talk about spares and pressure them to make them available. Us 961'ers in the UK and overseas are buzzing around with identical looking 961's to the new ones. They need to keep us on side.
