Did Norton ever make a seat with a fibreglass base for an Interstate ? I got a used one here and the base looks far too good to be an aftermarket job. It has a basketweave type cover with a cross strap, and two fixing lugs in steel bolted to it.

Thanks, I've never come across one before, good to know it's the genuine article.

The fiberglass seat was not a great idea as they are prone to cracking. I had to re-inforce mine.

Mine had the fibreglass base seat originally. If you take a pillion passenger and they hang on to the seat it lifts quite a bit when you brake, which is pretty disconcerting and causes it to split in the middle. I switched to a steel base seat pretty early in my bikes life.

Mine also had a fibreglass base, which cracked while I was riding it a year or two back.
A friend had a spare metal base so i took all down to the upholsterers, then decided firmer foam would be the go, and then the old cover ripped when being refitted.
So my original seat now has a new base, foam and cover.
