Fairing idea

Re; “Not really, as explained, my friend's 2011 BMW rt1200r touring bike handles like an outhouse in crosswinds and headwinds.” –you are talking about the BMW RT1200R in was referring to the R100RS of the 1970s! two totally different bikes.

FYI it seems that some bike manufactures have made the mistake of designing a bike that is like a brick in side winds- The Vincent black prince is a prime example of this, and yes BMW have done it too!

Yes, we have come a long way and sometimes not gone very far. There are all kinds of modern faired in bikes that are awful in crosswinds.
The BMW touring bikes are prime examples. On top of that with the 2007 and 2011 models which I've ridden, you get a clunky shifting trans, jerky low speed driveline operation and considerable engine vibration.
And one of the worst reliability scores of any modern mass produced motorcycle.
I've ridden the modern BMWs back to back with my 47 Vincent and the BMW has a lot of catching up to do just to get up to 1947 standards!

Long way off now so I'll try to get back to the original post and idea.
Yes the 1/4 fairing Nigel posted not only looks good but is useful. In some conditions, it is all the fairing you want.
You wouldn't run a Genoa jibsail in a hurricane, you want a storm jib.
The 1/4 fairing is like a storm jib.
